BAGHDAD, The United Kingdom's Minister for Near Eastern Affairs, Alistair Burt, congratulated the Iraqi people, security forces and electoral authorities on the success of the elections.
A statement by the British Embassy in Baghdad quoted Bert as congratulating the Iraqi people, Iraqi security forces and electoral authorities on this historic day and the success of elections to ensure peaceful and orderly elections in a challenging environment, including unfortunate reports of attacks aimed at disrupting the vote, he said.
"We look forward to a close declaration of the final results, and we will work with all political groups to promote an effective and inclusive government and address the needs and hopes of all Iraqi citizens," he said.
"The United Kingdom and Iraq have strong bilateral relations, great hopes for the future and we are committed to working together on our common interests," he said.
"His country looks forward to working with the next government to help achieve stability, security and prosperity for all Iraqis," Bert said.
