Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri received this afternoon at the Center House the Italian Minister of Defense Elisabetta Trenta, with by a high-ranking military delegation headed by the Chief of Defense Staff General Claudio Graziano, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Massimo Marotti.
Discussions focused on the general local and regional situation, ways to implement the Rome Conference decisions to support the Lebanese army and the security forces and the bilateral relations.
Earlier, Premier Hariri stressed that everyone should work for a united Lebanon, so it would be a country for all, not for one side without the other. He said: We want the Lebanon that the youth dream of, and the problems that exist now should make us work together to improve the situation.
Hariri was addressing the youth who participated in the International Youth Leadership Camp, headed by the head of the camp's training facility, NASA astronaut Donald Thomas.
After receiving from Thomas a souvenir from the spacecraft in which he traveled to space, Hariri addressed the participants. He stressed the importance of taking care of the youth and providing them with employment opportunities so they remain in their country. He said: We are doing what we can to restore confidence in the state and launch the economic cycle to meet the demands of the youth and secure a prosperous future for them.
In response to questions from the participants, he stressed the need to strengthen the role of law in the country, to improve the situation on the environmental, organizational and social levels. He said: Lebanon has gone through a very difficult period considering what is going on around us in the region, but we managed to spare Lebanon the turmoil, and today we have to restore the citizens' confidence in the state and ensure that the law is applied in all aspects of life.
He added: We want to show the world that the message of Lebanon is that it is the country of coexistence, peace and stability.
Later on, Hariri met with the Chairman of the Banking Control Commission of Lebanon Samir Hammoud and discussed with him monetary and banking issues.
