President Michel Aoun on Monday received a cable from his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, who congratulated him upon the 75th anniversary of Lebanon's independence.
"China supports Lebanon's efforts to maintain the state sovereignty, preserve social stability, and push for economic development. It also expresses relief over the continuous reinforcement of the traditional friendship between the two countries and the permanent development of bilateral ties as well as the increasing progress of practical cooperation in all fields during the past years, thanks to the joint efforts by both sides," Jinping said in the cable.
"I pin high importance on the development of the Chinese-Lebanese relations, and I am ready to work with Your Excellency on deepening the friendship ties and cooperation between China and Lebanon, in a way that serves best the interest the two countries and people," he added.
Separately, Aoun met at Baabda palace today with Greek Orthodox Patriarch YuhannaYazigi, with whom he discussed the current situation and latest developments on the local scene.
He also met with MP JamilSayyed over most recent developments, including the government formation dossier.
Aoun later received Governor of the Lebanese Central Bank, RiyadSalameh, with talks touching on an array of local and regional financial affairs.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Salameh said that he reassured the President about the monetary stability in Lebanon.
