The Lebanon-U.K. Business and Investment Forum has kicked off in London, in the presence of Prime Minister-designate, Saad Hariri, and Caretaker Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Bassil.
"The Lebanese-British partnership is based on a solid foundation of shared values and is built on pluralism, openness, and democracy, which all create an investment-friendly environment," Bassil said in an address to the forum's participants.
"Lebanon is a peace-loving country that bears the wars of others on its soil. It has always been the aggressed, not the aggressor. Lebanon has always respected international resolutions and abided by resolution #1701. It's a country that endeavors to ensure peace and stability," Bassil added.
He went on to make clear that Lebanon was a homeland that guaranteed freedom and security for its people and its guests, even if that was at the expense of its economic and social interests.
"Lebanon has always been a source of bad news; however, my presence with Prime Minister Hariri today is an attempt to send you a positive message, which is to trust our country," Bassil added.
