Baghdad, Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Reform and Reconstruction Alliance called for the involvement of the forces of popular movement and influential tribes and youth and the parties concerned in accordance with the law and the Constitution, in the process of choosing the new governor of Basra.
"The reform must start from Basra, Iraq's economic cornerstone and its southern window," Hakim said, according to a statement by his media office. He stressed the need to remove the post of governor of Basra from trade deals, political agreements, and foreign agendas.
He demanded to deal with Basra justly, and makes it the economic capital formally and effectively.
