BAGHDAD Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi said during a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed AbulGheit that the opportunity is now ripe for the restoration of the Arab situation."
"We must take advantage of the lessons of the past and the wars and conflicts our countries have witnessed. Iraq has passed through wars and crises over the past four decades that have destroyed its infrastructure," Abdul Mahdi said during a meeting with AbulGheit, and Ambassadors accredited to the Arab League in Cairo.
"We have advanced relations with Egypt, all neighboring Arab countries, regional and European countries and others, and our enemies are unemployment, poverty and ignorance," he said.
"The meeting of the tripartite summit is a confirmation of our intention to establish relations of partnership and economic cooperation and close relations with all countries and remove all obstacles in the way of economic cooperation and trade."
For his part, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed AbulGheit said: "Iraq has succeeded and its foreign policy is successful in its relations with Arab countries. We look forward to the role of Iraqi leadership to promote unity, stability and development and serve the peoples of our countries that have suffered long, hoping for Iraq and its people more development.
