The Maronite Bishops on Wednesday condemned the U.S. recognition of the Syrian occupied Golan Heights as Israeli territory, stressing that this decision violates the international law and UN charters and resolutions.
The Bishops convened today in their periodic meeting in Bkirki under the chairmanship of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Rahi.
In a statement issued afterwards, they indicated that talks touched on President Michel Aoun's fresh visit to Russia and his meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
"Lebanon's best interest lies within the proper treatment of the displaced Syrians' crisis, in accordance with the Lebanese Constitution," the Bishops said, adding that their repatriation must not be linked to the political solution in Syria.
