Pompeo and Aboul Gheit contact Hariri

The President of the Council of Ministers Saad Hariri received today a phone call from the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who checked on his health and congratulated him on his recovery after the heart procedure he underwent. It was also an occasion to follow up on the issues that were discussed during Pompeo's last visit to Beirut. They also discussed the situation in the region.

Hariri received similar phone calls from the Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Aboul Gheit and the Executive Director of the UN World Food Program David Beasley.

Hariri also received at the Grand Serail the Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Nazih Naggari, who said after the meeting: I congratulated Premier Hariri on his safe return and found that he is in excellent health. I discussed with him a number of bilateral issues between the two countries, in addition to following up the work of the joint committee that meet two years ago. We need to continue its work because of the important issues it discusses, especially the economic ones, and the upcoming events between the two countries that we hope will serve the Lebanese economy and the government headed by Premier Hariri and of course the common interests.

Earlier, Hariri met with MP Bahia Hariri. He later received the elected board of trustees of the Amilieh Islamic Philanthropic Association, headed by Youssef Mohamad Beydoun. The delegation checked on Premier Hariri's health and informed him about the elections that took place last December and on the situation of the association.

Hariri received this afternoon MP Hagop Pakradounian and the Minister of Tourism Avedis Guidanian.

After the meeting, Pakradounian said: We congratulated Premier Hariri on his safe return. We also discussed several issues including the work agenda of tomorrow's cabinet meeting.

Regarding the appointment of the Armenian Central Bank vice governor, Pakradounian that this position is part of the share of the Armenian Orthodox sect, and what is said in the media is inaccurate as there is no problem with the Free Patriotic Movement or with Prime Minister Hariri.

He added: Our decision is very clear. We will renew if there is a renewal, and if a new appointment is made, we will propose young candidates. There is no problem neither on the name or the right of Armenian Orthodox in this position. In the end, we have a number of positions in the state just like the other sects, and we have the right to keep them. We also discussed the landfills in the Metn area and affairs of citizens there.
