Al-Sudani meets the Iranian Supreme Leader and stresses the need to continue joint efforts to confront terrorism, extremism and drugs / Expanded

Baghdad Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani met today, Tuesday, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Khamenei, during his official visit to Iran.

During the meeting, Al-Sudani expressed his thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support for Iraq and its support in the war on terrorism, and stressed the need to continue these joint efforts to confront terrorism, extremism and drugs.

The Prime Minister indicated, according to a statement by his media office, the importance of maintaining bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.

Al-Sudani stated: “The government is committed to the Iraqi constitution, which prohibits making Iraq a launching pad for aggression against its neighbors.”

He pointed out: “The government has placed the economy and services at the top of its priorities.” He expressed his hope that the close relations with Iran would contribute to enhancing these priorities.

For his part, the Supreme Leader of the Council of Ministers blessed the assumption of his duties as prime minister, and stressed: “Iraq is a large country with its resources and youth, and its people deserve stability and services.”

He stressed: “The security of Iraq is the security of the Islamic Republic,” calling on the Iraqi people to more unity and solidarity.
