Iraq and China stress the need to intensify efforts to develop bilateral relations

Baghdad Ambassador Hisham Al-Alawi, Head of the Asia and Australia Department, met with the Chinese Ambassador in Baghdad Cui Wei, today, Thursday, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The two sides stressed the need to intensify efforts to develop bilateral relations, and to coordinate continuously to strengthen cooperation in areas and issues of common interest to serve the interests of the two countries.

Ambassador Al-Alawi stressed Iraq’s interest in expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries, and supporting the work of all Chinese institutions and companies operating in Iraq, in a way that contributes to achieving the government’s priorities and sustainable development. Al-Alawi also thanked the continued Chinese support for Iraq in all fields.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador stressed that his country attaches special importance to Iraq’s participation in the Arab-Chinese summit to be held in Riyadh on December 9- 2022, as it is the first summit at the regional level, and is a historic opportunity for officials in the two countries to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations and play an important role in strengthening Arab-Chinese relations.

The two sides also agreed to move forward in following up and implementing memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two countries and the outcomes of political consultations.
