The Security Council fails to adopt a Russian draft resolution on Syria

BAGHDAD, The UN Security Council failed on Tuesday to adopt a Russian draft resolution expressing support for sending investigators from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to the site of an alleged chemical attack that killed people in Syria. This is the third draft resolution on chemical weapons attacks in Syria voted by the 15-member council on Tuesday evening.Any draft resolution requires nine votes and none of the five permanent members - Russia, China, France, Britain and the United States - has veto power against it. Protecting and preserving coastal marine environment for Benefit of Lebanese community

The European Union and the National Council for Scientific Research - Lebanon (CNRS-L) launched today, from on-board the CANA Research Vessel in Beirut, a multidisciplinary study project to evaluate the Lebanese Marine Environment. The project is funded by the European Union and the CNRS-L. The environmental study will be implemented by the CNRS-L National Centre for Marine Sciences andwill focus on the regions of Beirut and Tyre. The beach in Beirut is affected by pollution due to poor infrastructure, rapid population growth, uncontrolled dumping of solid waste and direct discharge of raw wastewater.
