Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Participates in 13th Session of Arab Ministerial Water Council in Cairo

Cairo, Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, participated yesterday in the meeting of the 13th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, which brought together Arab Water Ministers at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

The participants discussed during the meeting updating the “Water Security Strategy in the Arab Region to Face the Challenges and Future Requirements for Sustainable Development 2030”, as well as urging the Arab countries to improve the status of the water sector as a strategic topic to be presented at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which Egypt will host in 2022.

The Council extended appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for preparing a preliminary vision for the establishment of an Arab center to study the feasibility of water projects and entrusted the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Ministerial Water Council to circulate the center’s establishment proposal to the Arab countries and the council’s partner organizations for their feedback and provide them to the Council’s technical secretariat by end of March 2022, provided that the mini-committee holds its second meeting to study their observations and reformulate the proposal to establish the center, and re-circulate the proposal to the Arab countries to be discussed at the next meeting of the Technical Scientific Advisory Committee of the Arab Ministerial Water Council.
