The Ministry of Construction holds the annual meeting with UNICEF to discuss the systems of the water and environmental sanitation sectors

Baghdad The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities for Administrative Affairs, Yilmaz Al-Najjar, chaired (the annual review meeting of the systems of the water and environmental sanitation sectors) with the head and members of UNICEF in Iraq.

At the outset of the meeting, Al-Najjar stated: The Ministry is seeking to implement the recommendations made in previous meetings to strengthen the water sector systems, in real partnership with UNICEF to implement the team’s goals and prepare a master plan to address the problems facing this sector while reducing water bodies and establishing strategic projects covering the needs of citizens, and reduce waste by setting up monitoring systems on the quantities of water produced and consumed.

The meeting reviewed the most important interventions of the UNICEF water and environmental sanitation programs in Iraq for the year 2022, and the activities carried out by UNICEF to enhance services, in addition to discussing the meeting minutes and recommendations of the governorates and the challenges facing the program, and what must be done in the coming period in order to achieve the goals of the program in 2024.

For his part, the head of the UNICEF team praised the role played by the Ministry in implementing the goals of the program, which resulted in the formation of a joint committee away from routine to bring together all the competent parties; This resulted in achieving many positive results since the first meeting held last year.
