Joint Forces Command of Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen: A Hostile Projectile Launched by Terrorist, Iran-backed Houthi Militia Falls on King Abdullah Airport in Jazan

A statement by the Official Spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki stated that

“This evening, Friday (08 October 2021), a hostile projectile fell on King Abdullah Airport in Jazan, through which thousands of civilian nationals and multinational expats travel.

There are (5) minor injuries among civilian travelers and airport staff — Up until the issuance of this statement. This incident is being followed by competent authorities.”

Saudi Arabia Elected to Chair WIPO Union Assemblies

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), participated in the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held from 4 to 8 October 2021. During the assembly, the Kingdom was elected to chair four associations, in addition to chairing the WIPO Conference.

The CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Swailem, was elected to chair Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works Assembly, which is concerned with the protection of works and the rights of their authors. The assembly allows owners of works to determine the means of controlling the way their works are used, who uses them, and the terms of the use. The Berne Convention Assembly was concluded in 1886, and the Kingdom joined it in 2003, and it has 177 countries as members of the Assembly.

The Deputy CEO for Intellectual Property Policies and Partnerships Sami Al-Sodais, has also been elected as chair of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (Paris Union) for the second time in a row. The association is concerned with industrial property in its broadest concepts, including patents, trademarks, industrial designs, utility models, service marks, trade names, and data. The Paris Association was concluded in 1883, and the Kingdom joined it in 2003, and it has 175 countries as members of the Assembly.

The Deputy CEO for Intellectual Property Operations, Dr. Ali Al-Shanqeeti, was elected as chair of the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled. The treaty is concerned with setting a set of mandatory restrictions and exceptions for the benefit of the blind, visually impaired and people with other print disabilities. The Marrakesh Treaty was adopted in 2013. The Kingdom joined it in 2018, and it has 6o countries as members of the Treaty.

The intellectual property advisor, Shayea Al-Shayea was elected as chair of the Conference of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which is considered one of the three main bodies of the organization, and it discusses topics of general importance in the field of intellectual property, the conference has the right to take recommendations related to those topics. The Kingdom joined as a member of the organization in 1982. Al-Shayea also chairs the Assembly of Locarno Union, which is a classification of industrial designs, and the Kingdom joined the union in 2020, and it has 6o countries as members of the union.

Fashion Commission to Host Fashion Futures Event in December

The Fashion Commission is pleased to announce its Fashion Futures event, which will take place at the Cultural Palace in Riyadh on the 10th and 11th December 2021. The two-day event will bring together global, regional, and local fashion communities to create a dynamic exchange of knowledge, ideas and expertise.

Fashion Futures will explore the themes of sustainability, diversity, culture, innovation and entrepreneurship, building on themes from previous events. The hybrid in-person and virtual event format will push the boundaries of possibilities enabling the flow of knowledge, innovation, and ideation from around the globe. Launched in Riyadh in 2019 as the Kingdom’s first-ever dedicated fashion event, Fashion Futures was re-engineered in June 2021 as a digital platform following the appointment of Burak Cakmak as CEO of the Fashion Commission. The platform’s premier event, Fashion Future Lives: Moving Towards Sustainability, Diversity & Innovation was broadcast live from studios in New York City and Riyadh. Featuring renowned sustainability experts, conservationists and entrepreneurs, the event virtually brought together some of the world’s greatest sustainability minds to address some of the most pressing issues faced today.

Burj Khalifa Celebrates Saudi Arabia’s Participation in Expo 2020 Dubai

Dubai-based Burj Khalifa has celebrated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s participation in “Expo 2020 Dubai”, by playing a video against the facade of the tower during the weekend, which triggered an outstanding interaction by the large audience who flocked to the plaza overlooking the tower in downtown Dubai.

The presentation included animated images that shed light on the Kingdom’s rich nature, diverse ecosystems and deep-rooted heritage, as well as unique tourist sites that stem from the values of hospitality and generosity rooted in the authentic Saudi culture, the generosity of its people, their hospitality and their invitation to the world to visit the Kingdom and benefit of opportunities and the broad prospects being offered by the Kingdom in light of the “Kingdom’s Vision 2030”.

To mark the occasion, Commissioner General of the Kingdom’s pavilion Hussain Hanbazazah said the Saudi pavilion with its creative content, represents an invitation to welcome the world to share the dreams and aspirations of the Kingdom towards a common and prosperous future for all, renewing a call on the audience to visit the pavilion which features more than 1,800 activities, distinguished programs and thematic weeks, which will cover all economic, developmental and cultural fields over the next six months.
