Shura Council holds 21st meeting

Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Shura Council Chairman, today chaired the 21st meeting of the first session of the Sixth Legislative Term.

The session approved the minutes of the previous meeting. Then, the meeting was notified about the correspondence received from Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, regarding a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Bahrain’s Transportation and Telecommunications Minister, Mohammed bin Thamer Al-Kaabi, and Annadurdy Kosayev, the head of Türkmendenizderýaýollary (Turkmen Maritime and River Transport) Agency.

The Council was notified of the proposed decree to add a new article No. (16 bis) to Decree No. (17) of 2007 regarding vocational training and its referral to the Services Committee with notification to the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee, which aims to achieve the principle of equal opportunities among citizens, in terms of paving the way for new Bahraini university graduates, to start their working life early, by receiving training in private sector companies that employ at least 50 workers And activating the social function of capital, as it represents its economic function within the framework of the obligations of social justice, as required by the Constitution.

The Council was also notified of the question addressed to the Minister of Finance and National Economy, submitted by member Dr. Jihad Abdullah Al-Fadhel regarding retirement systems and pension funds, and the Minister’s response to it.

After that, the Council discussed the report of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee regarding a draft law ratifying the Artemis Accords on the principles of cooperation in civil exploration and the use of the Moon, Mars, comets and asteroids for peaceful purposes, attached to Decree (17) of 2022.

The committee’s rapporteur, Abdulrahman Jamsheer, affirmed that the bill aims to provide opportunities for cooperation and investment in the space sector, exchange information and experiences among member states, achieve scientific benefit through cooperation with NASA and other member states, as well as participate in projects of knowledge and economic feasibility, create educational and training opportunities in space sciences, in addition to participation in scientific research and space experiments to attain scientific achievements.

Al Jouf Region Governor receives Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Prince Faisal bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Al Jouf Region of Saudi Arabia, received Shaikh Ali bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Bahraini Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The meeting discussed topics of common interest and reviewed the deep-rooted Bahraini-Saudi relations in various fields.

The governor wished the ambassador success in performing his diplomatic duties.

The ambassador expressed his appreciation to Al Jouf region Governor for the hospitality.

Bahrain urges protection for children in war-torn regions

Sahar Rashid Al-Mannae, Undersecretary at the Social Development Ministry stressed Bahrain’s strides in protecting child rights stipulated in the constitution.

She stressed Bahrain’s efforts to pass laws and legislations to ensure children a secure and a safe environment for their upbringing.

Al-Mannae made the statement as she addressed a webinar on preventing gross violations against children in armed conflicts.

The session was chaired by the State of Qatar as part of the 42nd session of the Arab League social affairs minister’s council which was held remotely with the participation of the Arab League and specialized international organizations.

The webinar featured two sessions which focused on ways of preventing grave violations against children in armed conflicts, while the third sessions stressed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to combat violations.

In their final statement the delegation issued a number of recommendations stressing the importance of full commitment to protecting Arab child rights through laws, policies and programs centered on children.

The statement urged the international community to provide protection for children in war-torn regions and those living under occupation.

“Children and youth are the key peace and security in the world”, said the statement stressing the importance of investing in these age categories.

The statement also welcomed the initiatives of the Kingdom of Norway to organize an international meeting on protecting children in war-torn regions, scheduled to be held in Oslo on June 5-6.

Workshop on electronic fraud kicks off

A round table workshop kicked off today under the theme “Electronic Fraud: Challenges and Confrontation”. It is co-organized by the Public Prosecution, the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) and the Judicial and Legal Studies Institute. The event was patronized by Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainin, in the presence of CBB Governor General Rasheed Al Maraj and President of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission Chancellor Nawaf Hamza.

The sessions will continue for two days to discuss electronic fraud crimes and work out solutions to related legal and technical challenges. Electronic fraud is considered as an international phenomenon that requires to be dealt with firmly and with high-speed procedures to track money and work on recovering it. This is in addition to alleviating practical hardships to track down the perpetrators of those crimes locally and internationally.

LMRA extends inspection campaigns to the Southern Governorate

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) conducted a joint inspection campaign in the Southern Governorate, in coordination with the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) of the Ministry of Interior and the Southern Governorate Police Directorate.

The campaign resulted in reporting a number of violations related to the Labour Market and Residency laws and were referred for legal action.

LMRA stressed its commitment to report any violation through a continuous and intensive inspection plan, in cooperation with the relevant government entities.

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority renewed its call on all members of the society to support the efforts of government agencies to address illegal labour practices, calling on the public to report violations by filling the electronic form on LMRA’s website www.lmra.gov.bh or calling the authority’s call centre on 17506055.
