Agreement Signed to Fund Knee Replacement Surgeries


Muscat: Athar Health Endowment Foundation and Saud Bahwan Charitable Foundation today signed a financing agreement to the tune of RO 250,000 to perform knee replacement surgeries for patients with limited income.

The agreement’s signing was in implementation of a strategy to achieve sustainability in financing health services (by finding alternatives), accelerate pace of health procedures, consolidate public-private sector partnership and encourage charitable collaboration among members of society through Athar Health Endowment Foundation.

The agreement will help cut down waiting lists, ease the burden on government health institutions and enable patients to perform operations in the shortest possible time.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Athar Endowment Health Foundation, and Sarah Mohammed Bahwan, who represented Saud Bahwan Charitable Foundation.

Syrian-Abkhazian talks on boosting cooperation in transport sector


Damascus, The Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaym, discussed with the Ambassador of the Republic of Abkhazia in Damascus, Muhammad Jalalovich Ali, ways to develop cooperation relations in the fields of sea, air and land transport between the two countries.

Talks during the meeting dealt with activating the memorandums of understanding and agreements signed between the two countries, and keeping pace with the development witnessed by the political relationship with economic and trade relations, the foundations of which are building a joint strategy between the vital transport sectors, especially the maritime transport line between the Syrian and Abkhaz ports.

The two sides pointed out the importance of the geographical location of the two countries and the necessity of investing the resources that each of them enjoys in creating an economic and commercial environment and seeking to simplify procedures that activate and increase transport capacity, encourage export and import movement and exchange of g
oods, confront challenges, and provide the necessary support and facilities to achieve development, economic and social goals that reflect positively on the interests of the two friendly peoples.

Khuzaym expressed Syria’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities to achieve close relations in the fields of transportation, find appropriate ways and formulas for joint cooperation, and develop a joint cooperation in a way that simplifies work procedures, facilitates the process of exchanging information and joint work, accelerates the pace of implementation of joint projects between the two countries, and enhances the role of businessmen and investors in the two friendly countries.

Polysilicon Unit Worth RO 520m to Be Set Up at Sohar Freezone

Sohar: Sohar Freezone in North Al Batinah Governorate tomorrow will celebrate laying of the foundation stone for a polysilicon factory project with an investment of more than RO 520 million. The unit is expected to open during 2025.

The project, which will occupy an area of 160,000 square metres, will produce high-quality metallic silicon with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons.

The production process involves pouring liquid metallic silicon from furnace into molds, cooling, casting, grinding and then packing the ore for global export.

The project reflects the Omani government’s keenness to encourage local investment and attract foreign investors, as part of the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Zakharova: US and NATO are the ones who attack other countries


Moscow, The United States is the one that possesses and implements expansionist plans and attacks other countries, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Zakharova was commenting on the statements of the American representative to NATO, Julian Smith, in which she blamed Moscow for the failure of American-Russian relations.

‘We recommend that the US State Department present its fictional tales about NATO extending a helping hand to others to children, because they cause laughter,’ Zakharova was quoted by Russia Today website as saying.

The Russian diploma stressed that it was the NATO that violated the treaties, expanded towards Russia, and carried out aggression against other countries such as Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Afghanistan.

Zakharova emphasized that ‘the Governments of NATO member States are today publicly demonstrating their intentions towards Russia and their main and obvious objective is to try to inflict a strategic defeat on our country, and to this end they are
supplying the Kiev regime with weapons and intelligence data, and are de facto involved in the Ukrainian conflict they orchestrated.’

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik exchanged greetings in a telephonic call with King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

During the call, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his heartfelt sentiments to King Hamad, wishing him good health, happiness and a long life. His Majesty also prayed to the Almighty Allah for the return of this occasion on King Hamad while the people of Bahrain realize aspirations of further progress and welfare.

A’Rustaq Hospital Diagnoses Child with Gastric Wall Vein Bleeding

A’Rustaq: In a unique case of its kind, the Paediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Department at A’Rustaq Hospital, South Al Batinah Governorate, succeeded in diagnosing bleeding in one of the veins lining the gastric wall of a 9-year-old child.

Dr.Tawfiq Al Lawati, Senior Consultant Paediatrics Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, said that occurrence of such bleeding is rare in children. He explained the patient was brought to hospital vomiting frank red blood, prompting the operating team to conduct the surgery.

The surgical team used specialized endoscopy of the stomach, injected the vein and installed advanced clips to prevent bleeding.

Death toll from malnutrition in the Gaza Strip rises to 25


Occupied Jerusalem, A Palestinian infant and a young Palestinian woman were martyred on Saturday evening in the Gaza Strip afflicted by malnutrition, bringing the total number of martyrs due to hunger in the Strip to 25 martyrs.

Palestinian Health Ministry stated in a statement that a two-month-old baby girl and a 20-year-old woman were martyred in Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip as a result of malnutrition and dehydration, stressing that famine in the northern Gaza Strip had reached fatal levels.

The Gaza Strip is living in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions, reaching the point of famine, while the occupation authorities continue to prevent and obstruct the arrival of humanitarian aid, especially to the northern regions, while the aid that reaches the south of the Strip is not sufficient for the needs of the Palestinians, especially in Rafah, which is considered the last refuge for the displaced.

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has received a cable of thanks from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in reply to His Majesty’s condolences cable to him on the death of Prince Mamdouh Saud Abdulaziz Al Saud.

In the cable, King Salman expressed his sincere appreciation for His Majesty’s heartfelt sympathies and sincere prayers. King Salman also prayed to Allah the Almighty to rest the deceased’s soul in peace in paradise and protect His Majesty against all harm.
