The President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, met His Beatitude Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Patriarch of the Syriac Catholics of Antioch in the world, Mor Ephram Youssef Abba, Archbishop of Baghdad and Secretary of the Holy Synod, and His Excellency Monsignor Habib Murad, Patriarchal General Curator and Secretary of the Patriarchate Syriac Catholic Antiochene.
The President of the Republic affirmed, according to a statement, that “the Christian component in Iraq is an authentic component and is respected and appreciated by all, referring to their contributions to the Mesopotamia civilization and their role in consolidating the cultural and historical heritage in the country, and he also praised their national stances in building the new Iraq.”
He pointed out, “The government’s efforts have prioritized strengthening security and stability, maintaining peaceful coexistence among all components and spectra, and continuing to rehabilitate the infrastructure, especially for areas damaged by terrorism.”
Abdul Latif stressed: on the unremitting efforts to strengthen relations between all components and spectrums of the Iraqi people, noting in this regard, that the relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan region are good, and there are meetings that are constantly taking place between the two sides.”
He stressed the importance of ensuring the implementation of the constitution, commitment to implementing its paragraphs, and protecting state institutions in order to provide services to citizens.
For his part, His Beatitude Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan expressed his happiness at meeting the President of the Republic, praising the President’s proposals to protect peaceful coexistence among all components and spectra, and the positive developments that Iraq is witnessing at various levels, especially security and service.
The Antiochene Syriac Catholic Patriarch in the world “expressed his rejection and denunciation of the attacks against the Holy Qur’an, stressing that these deviant actions and behaviors were rejected by Christians, and Sweden must prevent the recurrence of such false attacks.”
The President of the Republic stressed that “the burning of the Holy Qur’an resulted in international reactions regarding the application of human rights principles, freedom and respect for religions and beliefs.”
His Beatitude Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan referred to “the ongoing preparations for holding a conference in the city of Qaraqosh during the next month, where the President expressed his wishes for the success of the conference and the achievement of its desired goals.”
