National Center for Meteorology Issues Report on Forecast Weather Conditions on Kingdom during Summer

Riyadh: The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has published a comprehensive report detailing the anticipated weather conditions across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the summer period from June to August 2024.

The report forecasts a significant increase in surface temperatures, with temperatures expected to rise by up to 80% across most regions of the Kingdom, surpassing the average by up to two degrees Celsius.

Regarding precipitation, the report indicates an expected increase in rainfall across most regions, particularly in July and August, with a likelihood of 70%. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Al-Baha, Asir, Jazan, Najran, and mountainous areas of Makkah.

Climatic surface wind patterns during June, July, and August are projected to be influenced by the extension of the Azores High over the west and northwest of the Kingdom. This will lead to active northwesterly surface winds originating from the Mediterranean basin, extending towards the Red Sea and northern parts of the Ki
ngdom, and reaching the Arabian Gulf. Wind speeds are expected to diminish over interior and southern regions, with variable directions.

The report emphasizes the importance of monitoring NCM’s sub-seasonal climate forecasts, weather predictions, and early warning systems to stay informed about changing weather conditions and potential impacts.
