Registration open to the public to compete globally from home and get a systematic analysis of students’ math skills.

SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Eye Level Math Olympiad 2022 (a.k.a.ELMO 2022), where students between grades 1 through 8 from all over the world compete for their math skills, will take place in November across 15 countries worldwide.

As some countries are still struggling from the pandemic, the ELMO 2022 will be held online for the safety of the participants. The test will consist of three sections that challenges the students’ arithmetic skills as well as their critical thinking skills. Questions are carefully designed for each grade level in terms of assessment scope and difficulty and will allow students to see where they stand in a global level.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation and a systematic analysis of their math skills in various aspects. The official results and winners will be announced on myeyelevel.com in January 2023 and the Award Ceremonies for outstanding participants will be held locally at each regional office’s discretion.

محافظة العلا، المملكة العربية السعودية،, 24 أكتوبر / تشرين أول 2022 /PRNewswire/ — كشف بحثٌ أثري جديد تمت مراجعته  وتحكيمه علمياًحول مصائد الحيوانات القديمة المبنية بالحجارة، والمعروفة باسم “المصائد الحجرية “، عن الطريقة المتطورة التي اتبعها سكان المنطقة لصيد الحيوانات البرية خلال العصر الحجري الحديث المتأخر. وتُظهر هذه الطريقة براعة وطبيعة شعوب هذه المنطقة التعاونية في الماضي.

أطلق الطيارون على هذه الهياكل اسم مصائد “الطائرات الورقية” في عشرينات القرن الماضي، وذلك لأن شكلها من الأعلى يشبه طائرات الأطفال الورقية القديمة ذات اللافتات. ومع ذلك، فإن أصول ووظيفة هذه الهياكل العملاقة كانت موضع نقاش.

أجرى فريق الدكتور كراسارد من أجل دراستهم الجديدة هذه عملاً ميدانياً في المملكة العربية السعودية والأردن وأرمينيا وكازاخستان. ويؤكد بحثهم أن “المصائد الحجرية” كانت تستخدم للصيد وليس للترويض، وأنها “تمثل تغييراً كبيراً في الاستراتيجيات البشرية لصيد الحيوانات” وأن “تطوير هذه الهياكل العملاقة للصيد كان له تأثير بشري مذهل على المناظر الطبيعية”. ويعتقد أن “المصائد الحجرية” أدت إلى تجاوز مستويات الكفاف عند الصيد، مما أدى إلى “زيادة السلوك الرمزي المرتبط بإنتاج الغذاء والتنظيم الاجتماعي”. وقد تكون بعض الأنواع البرية قد غيرت طرق هجرتها نتيجة لذلك، وربما تم اصطياد أنواع أخرى حتى انقرضت.

اكتشف فريق علم الآثار الجوية في محافظة العلا، والذي ترعاه جامعة غرب أستراليا بقيادة الدكتورة ريبيكا ريبر، 207 مصيدة من نوع “المصائد الحجرية” غير معروفة سابقاً في محافظة العلا وحقول الحمم البركانية المجاورة لحرّة عويرض. ووجد الفريق أيضاً أن نوعاً مميزاً من “المصائد الحجرية” على شكل حرف V كان هو الشكل الأكثر انتشاراً في المنطقة التي شملتها الدراسة، على عكس هذا النوع من المصائد الموجودة في أماكن أخرى في المنطقة. ووجد علماء الآثار أن “المصائد الحجرية” كانت موجودة في مجموعة متنوعة من الأشكال، مثل شكل حرفي V وحرف W .

وتحتوي جميع المصائد الحجرية في المنطقة، بغض النظر عن شكل ها ، على خطوط توجيه مكونه من الجدران الحجرية المنخفضة التي تتلاقى لتوجيه الحيوانات نحو مصيدة مثل حفرة أو جرف. يبلغ متوسط طول “المصائد الحجرية” في محافظة العلا حوالي 200 متراً. ويمكن أن تمتد هذه المصائد في أماكن أخرى لمسافة كيلومترات عدة. وتقول الدكتورة ريبر إن الطول الأقصر يوضح منطق الصيادين في وضع المصائد في المناطق التي كانت التضاريس غير المستوية فيها تضيّق تحركات الحيوانات، كما يظهر أن الصيادين يمتلكون معرفة متطورة بهذه التحركات.

تميل هذه المصائد إلى توجيه الفريسة نحو حفرة عميقة بشكلٍ مفاجئ. وهذا يمثل تكيفاً مع البيئة المحلية، غالباً ما تنتهي “المصائد الحجرية” في أماكن أخرى بحفر مخفية يمكن فيها قتل مئات الحيوانات خلال عملية صيد واحدة. ويمكن أن يكون هذا الاختلاف دليلاً على تكيف الصيادين مع الطبوغرافيا المحلية أو تطور هذه الطريقة في الصيد.

ويتمم البحث الذي يجريه فريق علم الآثار الجوية في المنطقة عمل الدكتور كراسارد، الذي قدم دراسة حول “المصائد الحجرية” في خيبر نُشرت مؤخراً بإشراف الدكتور أوليفييه بارج (من المركز الوطني الفرنسي للبحث العلمي) فيما يتعلق بالتسلسل الزمني النسبي لأنواع “المصائد الحجرية”، حيث ميّز فريقه بين نوعين من المصائد  في واحة خيبر وهي: المصائد الحجرية الصحراوية والمصائد البدائية، والتي لا تحتوي على سياج يحيط بالحفرة. ويقترح الفريق أن يكون استخدام المصائد البدائية قد سبق استخدام “المصائد الحجرية الصحراوية” الأخرى، وهو تكيف ربما يعكس تطور تقنيات الصيد حيث أصبحت أكثر احترافية واتقان.

يعتبر معهد الممالك نشطٌ في الوقت الحالي كمنظمة بحثية، مع تطلعات وخطط لافتتاح مكتب تمثيلي في محافظة العلا بحلول العام 2030. ويضيف البحث الذي ترعاه الهيئة في محافظة العلا والمنطقة المحيطة بها إلى قاعدة المعرفة ليسترشد بها معهد الممالك. وتتوقع الهيئة أن يصبح المعهد وجهة رئيسية بحلول الوقت الذي يتوقع أن تستقبل فيه محافظة العلا مليوني زائر سنوياً في العام 2035.

The announcement was made at the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting earlier today.

This year’s meeting focuses on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the need for high-impact R&D platforms, partnerships, and policies that effectively bridge the gap between innovation and equitable access. The meeting brings together researchers from around the world to share work, learn about cutting-edge advances in the health care field, and collaborate with other investigators.

“Health equity shouldn’t just be a statement of why we do this work. It should guide how we do it,” said Kedest Tesfagiorgis, deputy director of Global Partnerships & Grand Challenges at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. “When we support locally led innovation, we maximize impact by bringing different kinds of knowledge and perspectives to the fore.”

As part of the Grand Challenges Global Call to Action, a 10-year initiative announced at last year’s meeting to help ensure scientists and institutions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) play a central role in shaping the global R&D agenda, the foundation announced two new Grand Challenges initiatives:

• Pathogen Genomic Surveillance and Immunology in Asia : This is an invitation for proposals from investigators in South and Southeast Asia to design and pilot a genomic surveillance program or develop capacity for immunology and immune sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 to inform epidemic response. Up to $300,000 per year for up to two years will be available for each project, with potential additional funding for projects that include a focus on monoclonal antibody discovery.
• Building Data Modeling Capacity for Gender Equality : This is an invitation for proposals from investigators in low- and middle-income countries for projects aimed at addressing disparities and gaps affecting women and girls in health. This initiative is focused on innovative approaches to modeling that advance gender equality. Each project will receive up to $500,000 over one to three years.

“Societies measure what they value, and for most of history, society hasn’t valued women. This means we’re trying to tackle global health and development challenges with missing information,” said Anita Zaidi, president of the Gender Equality division at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. “It is long past time to put women and girls at the center of the data modeling that guides our solutions.”

In partnership with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), the foundation will also provide grants to researchers investigating and detecting emerging pathogens in LMICs. Researchers will receive up to $200,000 each for up to two years, as well as operational support and technical training from the ChanZuckerberg Biohub (CZ Biohub). This funding commitment builds on a 2018 partnership between the foundation, CZI, and the CZ Biohub that is focused on building metagenomics capacity in LMICs through a Global Grand Challenges initiative.

The 2022 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting in Brussels is hosted by Global Grand Challenges and the European Commission, and co-sponsored by Grand Challenges Canada, USAID, Wellcome, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

وسجلت التجارب العشوائية المضبوطة التي تم الحكم عليها من قبل المختبر الأولي ما مجموعه 480 مريضًا في 28 موقعًا في ألمانيا والنمسا. تم تسجيل المريض المستهدف في 23 سبتمبر، في مستشفى هانوش فيينا من قبل البروفيسور مارتن فيرنر وفريقه.

• Under the terms of the partnership, Lunit will collaborate with SEHA to conduct an evaluation trial of its AI-based radiology later this year

SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Lunit (KRX: 328130.KQ) today announced that it signed a collaboration agreement with the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), part of Pure Health, the UAE’s largest healthcare network. The signing ceremony took place at Lunit’s Seoul headquarters on September 29. Attending officials included Lunit CEO Brandon Suh and Radiologist Dr. Afra Rashed Saeed Almesaied Alneyadi.

Following the agreement, Lunit and SEHA will proceed with a proof of concept (POC) of the Lunit INSIGHT suite, the company’s AI solution for radiology, at medical institutions across the Middle East. The POC will include SEHA’s trial of the Lunit INSIGHT CXR, an AI solution for chest X-ray analysis, and the Lunit INSIGHT MMG, an AI solution for mammography analysis, for evaluation.

SEHA is a comprehensive healthcare network under the UAE’s largest healthcare provider Pure Health, a brand of scientific innovation that combines imagination and advances in technology.
