HM King condoles with UAE President

Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today sent a cable of condolences to the President of the United Arab Emirates His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the death of Sheikha Maryam bint Abdullah bin Sulayem Al Falasi.

In the cable, HM the King extended sincere condolences to the UAE President, praying to Allah the Almighty to have mercy on the deceased, rest her soul in vast paradise and grant her family solace and fortitude.

People’s Assembly calls for lifting Western blockade imposed on Syria

Damascus, People’s Assembly called on the international community to immediately and urgently lift the unjust siege and unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, and to provide a hand to limit the effects of the devastating earthquake that hit the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Assembly called on all UN member states and all regional and international federations and parliamentary bodies and international and regional organisations concerned with human rights to assume their moral and humanitarian responsibilities and adhere to the charters and principles of the UN and the Human Rights Charter, as well as what is stipulated in the articles of international humanitarian law and to exercise all forms of pressure on the governments of the countries that contribute in imposing blockades and unjust measures on the Syrian people, especially the US and the West, calling for lifting them immediately and supporting the efforts made by the Syrian government to limit the effects of this disaster and take immediate, urgent and effective action to help and break the unjust siege imposed on the Syrian people to overcome the effects this humanitarian ordeal, as soon as possible.

“The devastating earthquake left behind hundreds of victims and thousands of injured, in addition to the displacement of a large number of families from their areas of residence, in addition to demolition and cracking of thousands of buildings and houses, and severe damage to vital facilities and infrastructure”, the statement noted.

The statement pointed out that what Syria has been suffering from terrorist war for more than 11 years, as well as unilateral economic blockade, and unfair coercive measures that included the economic, social, health, educational, and living aspects of the Syrian citizen’s life, which greatly weakened the system of local capabilities with all its elements and components, and negatively affected the evacuations, rescue, relief and first aid operations and the attempts to overcome the repercussions of this tragedy that befell the Syrian citizens in these distressed areas.

The Assembly send copies of the statement to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk and many other officials.

President al-Assad receives more cables of condolence from presidents and leaders of Arab and foreign countries

Damascus,Messages of condolence and solidarity with Syria continue from presidents and leaders of Arab and foreign countries as well as partisan and popular activities.

President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan and the President of the Republic of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, expressed in two messages to President Bashar al-Assad their condolences for the loss of hundreds of victims as a result of the devastating earthquake, offering sincere expressions of solidarity and support for their families and loved ones.

The President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mohammed Abdul Hamid, and the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, also expressed, in their letters to President Al-Assad, their deep sorrow over the disaster that Syria has been exposed to, and they expressed confidence that the Syrian people are able to overcome its effects.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, offered President Assad his sincere condolences and sympathy, asking God Almighty to bless the victims with mercy and give their families the patience.

Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairperson of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, affirmed his country’s solidarity with Syria and its readiness to provide assistance to counter the effects of the earthquake.

Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, also sent President Assad, the families of the victims and the Syrian people his sincere condolences, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

President al-Assad also received many cables of condolence from partisan and popular activities who called for lifting the siege on Syria and speeding up aid to the Syrian people.

Syrian Embassy in Cuba calls on Syrian community to contribute to mitigating the quake consequences

Havana, Syrian Embassy called on the Syrian community in Cuba and in the Latin states to donate for those affected by the earthquake that rocked the country and resulted in hundreds of victims.

“Owing to the situation our country is experiencing after the earthquake that left hundreds of victims, in addition to huge damage to the infrastructure, the Embassy of the Syria in Havana calls on all expatriates and expatriate activists residing in Cuba, the Bahamas, Dominica, Jamaica and Panama to participate and show solidarity with their families in Syria, and give a helping hand to console them and alleviate their suffering, by contributing to this national effort, and taking the initiative to donate in the Embassy building in Havana” The Embassy said in a statement.

MOPH: 122 CASES OF CORONA, 1 DEATH, NO CHOLERA CASES OR DEATHS

In a report published this evening on Corona cases, the Ministry of Public Health announced the registration of 122 new infections, thus raising the cumulative number of confirmed cases to-date to 1,229,915, with one death recorded during the past 24 hours.

The Health Ministry also published a report on cholera cases in Lebanon, as no new infection was recorded, and accordingly the cumulative number of confirmed cases settled at 671, with no deaths recorded as well, thus maitaining the cumulative number of deaths at 23.
