Bahrain, Azerbaijan consolidate parliamentary ties

Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, received Shahin Abdullayev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bahrain.

The ambassador conveyed to the greetings of Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, and Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

The Shura Chairman affirmed the keenness to consolidate and strengthen parliamentary relations between the Kingdom and Azerbaijan.

He said that bilateral visits and meetings has contributed to advancing cooperation and creating more opportunities to enhance ties between the two countries.

Al Saleh commended the efforts made by Azerbaijan National Assembly and the keenness it showed to hold the network meeting in the Kingdom on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meetings last March.

Ambassador Abdullayev praised the success of Bahrain in hosting the 146th Assembly of the IPU, and expressed appreciation to the legislative branch for its efforts in hosting the largest parliamentary gathering which reflects the Kingdom’s high attraction to major international gatherings and conferences.

NIHR’s Complaints Committee holds 22nd meeting

The Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) today held its 22nd regular meeting, under the chairmanship of Rawdha Salman Alaradi, in the presence of members Ahmed Subah Alsaloom and Lawyer. Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi.

The committee reviewed the complaints received by the NIHR, the legal assistance requests and cases monitored through mass media and social media networks.

The panel discussed the decisions taken regarding 47 complaints it had received since its previous meeting.

The complaints covered several issues, including receiving treatment and health care at the reformation and rehabilitation centres, in addition to replacing the rest of convicts’ sentences.

AFC President: We are ready to host the best AFC Asian Cup in history

Doha: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President today underlined his confidence in the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 to deliver a true celebration of Asian football that will leave a lasting impression on the Continent’s players, teams and passionate fans.

Chairing the 1st AFC Executive Committee meeting for the term 2023-2027 in Doha, Qatar, Shaikh Salman hailed the steadfast efforts of the LOC, ahead of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Final Draw which will be held at the Katara Opera House tomorrow, outlining his gratitude to the LOC, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and the Qatari Authorities for their impeccable hosting capabilities.

The Executive Committee members were apprised of the tournament’s milestones, which include the eight confirmed world-class venues and competition dates as well as several other key operational aspects. The updates were also presented to the Organising Committee for AFC Asian Cup at its first meeting, which was chaired by Acting Chairperson Kohzo Tashima, earlier in the day, AFC said on its website.

The AFC President said: “As we all witnessed just less than six months ago at the FIFA World Cup, Qatar is amongst the best sporting destinations, not only in Asia, but across the globe, and we are confident that we will experience a memorable spectacle befitting the ever-growing stature of the AFC Asian Cup .

“For the first time in history, Asia’s crown jewel will be staged in FIFA World Cup stadiums, and we know that our teams and players are eager to showcase their talent in some of the world’s finest sporting arenas.

“The AFC has reiterated our ambitions to stage world-class competitions for our teams, players and match officials, and we must express our utmost gratitude to the LOC, the QFA and the Qatari Government for sharing our Vision and Mission for Asian football.”

With the anticipation building towards Thursday’s AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Final Draw, the AFC President also took the opportunity to wish Asia’s 24 teams the very best of success.

Shaikh Salman added: “Our 24 teams deserve our praise for reaching this stage of the tournament under exceptional circumstances and we wish them the very best of luck ahead of the Final Draw tomorrow. I know our players, teams and passionate fans are waiting eagerly for this milestone event, and the AFC and LOC are ready to host the best AFC Asian Cup in history.”

The AFC Executive Committee also approved the proposal to hold the AFC Extraordinary Congress 2023, which will be held virtually, on 18 October.

The AFC Executive Committee also agreed the list of persons to propose for election to the AFC’s Judicial Bodies for the term 2023 to 2027. The chairpersons, deputy chairpersons and members of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee, the AFC Appeal Committee and the AFC Entry Control Body will be elected at the upcoming AFC Extraordinary Congress 2023.

At the same time, the AFC Annual Awards will make a return on 31 October in Doha, Qatar, later this year. The AFC Executive Committee agreed that the hosting rights would remain with the Qatar Football Association who were originally scheduled to stage the prestigious event in 2020 before it was cancelled due to the implications brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

HM King returns to Bahrain

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa returned to the kingdom today following a visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Head of the Commonwealth.

During the visit, HM the King attended the coronation of HM King Charles III, held at Westminster Abbey.

HM King Hamad also attended a reception hosted by HM King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.
