OMSB Board Holds 2nd Meeting of 2023

The Board of Trustees of Oman Medical Speciality Board (OMSB) today discussed the initial approval of applications for new fellowship programmes in infectious diseases.

This was unveiled during OMSB’s second meeting of the year (2023) held under the auspices of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The board approved the list of doctors applying for training programmes in the OMSB for academic year 2023-2024 and the list of candidates for 2023-2024 scholarships.

The meeting also looked into policies and proposals related to academic affairs, including a mechanism that governs changing a trainee doctor’s employer during the training period at the OMSB, as well as the evaluation of fellowship programmes.

The meeting reviewed internal accreditation reports on centres and programmes of Khoula Hospital’s Department of Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery and Sultan Qaboos Comprhensive Cancer Care and Research Centre.

SAF Chief of Staff Receives GCC Military Official

Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) received in his office at Al Murtafaa Garrison today Air Vice Marshal Isa Rashid Al Mohannadi, Assistant Secretary for Military Affairs in the GCC Secretariat General and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed several matters and reviewed areas of bilateral military cooperation. They also exchanged views on various matters of mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by Maj. Gen Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Manthari, Brigadier Hamad Rashid Al Balushi, SAF Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Planning and several senior officers at the SAF Command.

SQU Inks Agreement with Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) signed today an agreement of cooperation dealing with mutual cultural cooperation.

The agreement constitutes providing a Spanish language teacher in the College of Arts and Social Sciences at SQU and holding several cultural events and activities during the upcoming academic years.

The agreement was signed by HH Sayyida Dr. Muna Fahd Al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation and Maria Luisa Huidobro Martin-Laborda, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Sultanate of Oman.

HM The Sultan Issues Royal Decree Appointing Oman’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued Royal decree No. 35/2023 appointing a Permanent Representative for the Sultanate of Oman to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), reading as follows:

Article (1) appoints Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Salim Al Shanfari, Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, as the Sultanate of Oman’s Permanent Representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Article (2) says that this Royal decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from its date of issue.

HM The Sultan Greets President of Italy

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has sent a cable of greetings to President Sergio Mattarella of the Italian Republic on his country’s National Day.

In the cable, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his sincere sentiments to President Mattarella, wishing him good health and happiness. His Majesty also wished the people of Italy further progress and prosperity.

Syria participates in International Festival of Independent Cinema of Casablanca

National Film Organization is participating in the official competition of International Festival of Independent Cinema Casablanca (FICIC) in its 2nd session, through narrative film “The Road” by director Abdellatif Abdelhamid. The festival will start on Friday, and is hosted by Casablanca, Morocco.

The film, will compete with 12 films from 16 Arab and foreign countries.

The film depicts a simple rural scene whose characters belong to their environment, which is colored by warm life details that bear their hopes and disappointments as a result of the storms of life.

The main hero of its events is child Saleh and his suffering as a result of being accused of stupidity by everyone around him, but his grandfather who bears the same name took it upon himself to transform the child’s cognitive stupidity to cognitive and aesthetic intelligence.

The film won three awards at Carthage Film Festival.

US occupation loots more quantities of Syrian oil

US occupation forces looted on Thursday new quantities of Syrian oil, brining out 49 tankers during the past few hours from the fields of Syrian al-Jazeera and the eastern region into the northern region of Iraq through illegal crossings.

Local sources in al-Yarubiya countryside told SANA reporter that the US occupation forces took out, through the illegal al-Mahmoudiya crossing on the border with Iraq, 40 tankers loaded with stolen Syrian oil towards their bases in Iraqi territory.

The sources added that hours later, the occupation forces brought out 31 vehicles, including 9 tankers and 9 carriers loaded with damaged military armored vehicles, accompanied by 6 US military armored vehicles for protection.

Makkah Route” Initiative Facilitates Procedures for Elderly Pilgrims in Bangladesh

The “Makkah Route” initiative, which the Ministry of Interior launched within the program to serve pilgrims, is one of the programs of the Saudi Vision 2030, and focused on providing care for elderly beneficiaries in Bangladesh, by assisting them with completing the procedures for their departure to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to perform the rituals of Hajj this year 1444 AH.

An employee from the “Makkah Route” initiative will assist the elderly pilgrims by escorting them to enter the initiative hall at Shahjalal International Airport and to the counter, where the procedures start with collecting vital information, followed by streamlined passport procedures in the departure country’s airport. These steps are fulfilled after verifying the validation of health requirements.

The Ministry of the Interior continues to provide the “Makkah Route” initiative for the fifth year in seven countries: Bangladesh, Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkiye, and Cote d’Ivoire, as part of the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in facilitating Hajj procedures for international pilgrims.

President Putin confident of Russia’s triumph in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has no doubt that Russia will win in Ukraine and become a guarantor of peace and security for all nations.

A representative of one of the exceptionally large families expressed confidence in Russia’s victory during a meeting with the president on International Children’s Day.

“I know that victory will always be ours. We will win, unequivocally, there is no other way. And I think that our country in the end will be a guarantor of peace and security for all peoples, for all countries in the world,” said the father of a family with multiple children awarded with the Order of Paternal Glory.

“That’s right. It will be just as you said. There is absolutely no doubt,” Putin concurred.

The head of state noted that during the special military operation Russia is defending “its land, people and values,” therefore, it will definitely emerge victorious. “There is no doubt, it goes without saying,” he reiterated.

President al-Assad grants Algerian Ambassador the Syrian order of Merit of the Excellent degree

President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday granted Ambassador of Algeria in Damascus, Lahsan Tuhami, the Syrian order of merit of the excellent degree in appreciation of his efforts to develop the Syrian-Algerian relations.

Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, who awarded the Algerian Ambassador the order of merit at a farewell ceremony, as the latter ends his mission as an Ambassador of Algeria to Syria, described as “deep and strong” the historic relations between Syria and Algeria.

“The two countries cooperate with each other against terrorism and they have offered martyrs in defense of their independence and sovereignty,” Mikdad said.

He hailed the latest development in the Arab region and cooperation among Arab states in order to activate the Arab joint action.

Ambassador Tuhami, for his part, thanked President al-Assad for honoring him, appreciating the Syrian Foreign Ministry on its continuous cooperation and supporting him to complete his duties here.

He stressed his country’s keenness on enhancing historic ties with Syria.

Ministry of Islamic Affairs Signs MoU with Azerbaijan State Committee on Religious Associations

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance and the State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The MoU aims to enhance bilateral cooperation and benefit from the experiences of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in serving Islamic work, spreading the values of moderate Islam and combating extremism.

Lavrov, Bin Farhan discuss developments in Syria, bilateral cooperation

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, discussed on Thursday with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in Syria, Sudan and Yemen.

Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Lavrov and Bin Farhan held a meeting on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the BRICS group in Cape Town.

The Ministry added that both sides held talks on stances of the two countries regarding urgent international and Middle Eastern issues, particularly the situation in Sudan, Yemen and solution to the crisis in Syria.
