5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Egypt

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck the Arab Republic of Egypt yesterday, according to the stations of the National Seismological Network of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research.

The head of the institute, Dr. Jad Al-Qadi, said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at exactly ten o’clock and 35 seconds, at a depth of 108.60 km, latitude 36.25 degrees north, longitude 26.45 degrees east, 551 km north of Marsa Matruh.

There were no reports of human or material losses as a result of the earthquake.
