Aboul Gheit Calls on the Sudanese Warring Parties to Cease Fire during the Eid Al-Fitr Days

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, has urged all parties in Sudan, including the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, to declare a cease-fire during the holy days of Eid Al-Fitr. This would allow civilians to have a respite, address their needs, and attend to critical and urgent humanitarian cases.

Aboul Gheit made this call during his participation in an international remote meeting on the situation in Sudan, organized by the African Union. The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the European High Representative, the Executive Secretary of IGAD, foreign ministers, and senior officials from Sudan’s neighboring countries, as well as the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the African members of the Security Council, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

The Secretary-General emphasized the importance of serious engagement to achieve a commitment to an armistice, allow the opening of humanitarian corridors, restore peaceful means, and establish a new phase that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people, enhancing their security, political, and economic stability.
