Al-Sadr tweeted: Freedom of expression and historical criticism through the Husseini pulpit does not mean freedom of insult, and ridicule

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, affirmed: “The freedom of expression and historical criticism through the Husseini pulpit does not mean the freedom to insult and severely mock a doctrine or people who followed it throughout history.”

Al-Sadr said in a tweet, against the background of a video clip of one of the preachers, who transgressed against one of the Rightly Guided Caliphs: Our morals from our fathers, that if we disagree with another doctrine and know its lapses – so to speak – this does not mean the freedom to insult, and severe mockery of their doctrine or the people who followed them throughout history.

Al-Sadr added: “The constructive doctrinal difference and meaningful dialogue, especially with regard to the preference of the Ahl al-Bayt over the Companions, must continue with politeness and respect, but the door should not be opened wide… The historical criticism is constructive, even if it is harsh… or the transmission of facts and opinions, even if it was not compatible with the minds of some, as such matters must continue without insulting, cursing and obscene words, and the voices of the Muhammadan Alawi Al-Husseini Al-Mousawi Al-Mahdawi platform should not be muzzled at all, but with some controls, and that it not be subject to those who came and went.
