Education Minister receives GASERC Director

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Information, received Dr. Mohammed Mutair Al Sharija, Director of the Gulf Arab States Educational Research Centre (GASERC), on the sideline of GASREC’s 36th Board of Trustees meeting held in Bahrain.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the ministry’s benefit from the outputs of the centre’s programs and activities, develop education in GASERC, and how the member states can contribute their expertise and competencies to the centre’s improvement of its educational services.

The minister praised Al Sharija’s efforts in developing the educational policies at the centre, following the latest educational trends and efforts in exchanging expertise in the educational field.

The director thanked the minister for his support and praised the ministry’s efforts and contributions in implementing joint programs and activities.

Alba, Nasser Artificial Intelligence R&D Centre announce cooperation

The Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) underlined its commitment to advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) within its operations with the successful completion of a joint project “Green Anode Density Prediction” with Nasser Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Center.

In honor of this achievement, Ali Al Baqali, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer and Dr. Abdulla Naser Al Noaimi, Nasser Artificial Intelligence R&D Center CEO honored the Centre’s team involved in the project at a ceremony held at Alba’s premises.

Al Baqali extended his thanks to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his support of AI in Bahrain and the Nasser Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Centre for selecting Alba as one of Bahrain’s first industrial companies to collaborate with.

“Artificial Intelligence is a tool we want to adopt as without it, we won’t be able to advance and disrupt the norms in our business. We believe that the choices which we make today will simply give us more data about what to do next,” he added.

Al Noaimi noted that the Centre aims at becoming one of the main pillars of Artificial Intelligence system in Bahrain through its unique projects and smart solutions that contribute to the digital transformation initiatives in both government and private sector organizations and companies.

He added that the R&D Arm of NVTC, will work on accelerating the pace of digitization, while heading towards a promising horizon in the knowledge-based economy, achieving the Bahrain Vision 2030 goals by young, ambitious Bahraini youth equipped with the necessary skills of this vital stage of national development.

The team is focusing on providing creativity and innovation in a new technical suit that contributes to improving operations and enhancing productivity at the local and regional levels, by undertaking these qualitative projects with the various sectors inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Green Anode Density Prediction is one of many joint projects to be implemented between Alba and Nasser Artificial Intelligence R&D Centre.

The completed project consist of an artificial intelligence model that predicts green anode density based on process variables, in addition to a dashboard that allows users to enter the values of process parameters and get the predicted density, which helps users to optimise the process and achieve the desired density of green anodes.

Education Ministry Endorses GED Results for Academic Year 2022-2023

Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education, approved General Education Diploma (GED) exams’ general indicators of results, as well as the results of equivalent qualifications, for the first sitting of the GED during Academic Year 2022/2023.

As many as 51,010 male and female students sat for the GED, with an overall success rate of 82.64% in the public schools’ category.

In the private (bilingual) schools’ segment, a total of 1,386 students sat for the GED exams, with an overall success rate of 91.89%.

In the GED of technical education, that of the Royal Guard of Oman’s Technical College (bilingual), a total of 54 students sat for the exams, with an overall success rate of 100%.

In the GED for Islamic sciences education, a total of 115 students sat for the exams, with an overall success rate of 98.25%.

In the GED for Special Education, a total of 62 students sat for the exams, with an overall success rate of 100%.

Dr. Ali Salim Al Shukaili, Director General of the Centre for Educational Assessment at the Ministry of Education, stated that the results will be available starting tomorrow, Thursday, at 4 pm, through the services of Omantel, Ooredoo and Vodafone. The results can be obtained by an enquirer sending a short text message to 90200, quoting the seat number. The results will also be available later on the educational portal of the Sultanate of Oman.

Workshop Held on Developing Programmes of Vocational Colleges

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation today organized the second workshop on reviewing and developing training programmes of vocational colleges.

The workshop brought together more than 50 participants from government and private establishments and military units.

The workshop was aimed at enabling vocational colleges to improve their programmes in a manner that secures the quality of vocational education, with the prime objective of aligning the systems with labour market needs.

Emphasis was laid on three main aspects: commercial studies, automobile engineering technology and architectural design.

Higher Education Ministry Inks Agreement to Provide 742 Scholarships

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation signed 23 agreements with private higher education institutions to provide 742 free scholarships during the academic year 2023/2024 to the tune of RO 9.104 million.

This came during a seminar on the roles of private higher education institutions in community service and the transition to a knowledge society. The event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

The seminar aimed at highlighting the role and contributions of these institutions in serving the local community and achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, said that all private higher education institutions in Oman are working, in cooperation with the Ministry, towards diversifying and enhancing the quality of their programmes to keep pace with international developments and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

On her turn, Lara Ghassan Obeidat, Director General of Scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation said that these scholarships will be offered for competition through the Higher Education Admission Centre.

Moreover, the seminar reviewed the experiences of several private higher education institutions in the field of community service.

WAMY Establishes Educational Development Center in Kazakhstan

The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new educational development center in Taraz, Kazakhstan, a city 533 km away from the capital, Astana.

The center serves over 6,450 residents in the region, providing them with a variety of life needs. It includes a mosque, a school and a charitable endowment.

Workshop Held on Practices in Line with Oman Vision 2040, Driving Institutional Change

A workshop kicked off today on the national system for institutional innovation and managing change.

The two-day workshop is organized by the Ministry of Labour. It reviews practices and research in line with Oman vision 2040.

The workshop is attended by 350 participants and 37 public and private establishments concerned with administrative practices related to developing government performance.

Through various working papers, the event discusses the matter of institutional innovation, as well as experiences and methods of innovation and change. It also highlights the roles of artificial intelligence (AI) in government work environments.

Workshop Held on Improving Teacher Preparation Programmes

A workshop was held here today to discuss the project of improving the efficiency of teacher preparation programmes in public and private higher education establishments.

The workshop outlined the project’s preparation phases, related challenges and international best practices for improving such programmes.

The technical team of the project comprises representatives from various entities including the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Education, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Dhofar University, the University of Nizwa, Sohar University and A’Sharqiyah University.

The workshop’s opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Presidency of Two Holy Mosques Affairs Provides Virtual Reality Technologies

The General Administration of Digital Exhibitions at the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has provided virtual glasses to visitors at the exhibitions it organized in the Grand Mosque.

Director General of Digital Exhibitions Rayan Al-Masoudi said that visitors are equipped with such glasses as part of the Ithra (Enrichment) initiative, aimed at enhancing their experience. Offering religious and historical information in such an innovative and modern way, he said, is a wonderful addition to the services provided by the Grand Mosque to its visitors.

The death of an educational lecturer in a run-over accident in Diyala

An educational lecturer was killed in a run-over accident north of Baquba, the center of Diyala Governorate.

A security source told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that an educational lecturer died in a run-over accident near the village of Abu Tamr, on the outskirts of Al-Khalis, north of Baquba.

He added that the victim’s body was transferred to the forensic medicine department, while the security authorities opened an investigation into the accident.

Integrity Commission: Summon of the Director of Maysan Education Directorate due to the seizure of more than 17 billion dinars

The Federal Integrity Commission revealed that it has seized cases of appropriation of pension payments for breeding staff in Maysan Governorate, the value of which exceeded (17) billion dinars.

The Commission’s Investigation Department stated, “The seizure process, which it carried out according to a judicial memorandum in the Maysan Education Directorate and the Pension Department, managed to seize the documents for the seizure of an amount of (17) billion, (893) million, and (774) thousand dinars for pension contributions of the governorate’s education staff.

It explained, “The amounts seized for the governorate’s education staff belong to the period from (1/1/2015 to 31/12/2019), as the amounts for this period were not sent to the Pension Department – the State Employees’ Pension Fund.”

It added, “The competent investigating judge, after reviewing the details of the seized initials recorded in the fundamental control record organized by the office staff, decided to issue summons orders against each of the current Director-General of Education in Maysan Governorate, the director of the Accounts Department, and the employee responsible for organizing the cheques, based on to the provisions of Article (315) of the Penal Code.”
