AL-RAHI AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE CHURCH YOUTH GATHERING ACTIVITY: YOU ARE LEBANON’S REMAINING HOPE

The Church youth gathering concluded its three days with success and momentum, in the presence of more than 1,500 young men and women participating from all over Lebanon. In his delivered word before the vast youth crowd, Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros al-Rahi urged them to “move forward in what they are doing in order to preserve Lebanon,” saluting their work and ecclesiastical and spiritual activity. He said in the closing and ceremonial Mass sermon at the Monastery of Our Lady of Bzommar: “Through the transfiguration of the Lord Jesus, He showed in Himself that the human essence recovered the beauty of the first image in which every human being was born, which is that God created man in His own image and likeness’ (Genesis 1:26)…But man distorted it and even lost it with his sin and evil deeds. He transformed his mind, the center of truth, into the energy of lying, and his will, the center of good, into the energy of evil, and his heart, the center of love and tenderness, into the energy of hate and malice…” In his homily in the presence of the heads and bishops of the Catholic Church, al-Rahi praised the role of the youth and ended his message by saying: “You are our only hope to revive Lebanon with its values and advantages…Let this International Youth Day be a new birth in your life.” It is to note that this meeting is part of the World Youth Day celebrations held in Lisbon, Portugal. This initiative aims to give Lebanese youth the opportunity to get closer to the atmosphere and experiences of World Youth Day (JMJ), which is hosted in Lisbon under the auspices of His Holiness Pope Francis. It is organized by the National Committee for Youth Welfare (APECL JEUNE) affiliated with the Secular Apostolic Council in Lebanon, lasting over 4 days and coinciding with the Blessed Feast of the Transfiguration.

MNEIMNEH SAYS ECONOMY MINISTER’S STATEMENT REFLECTS MENTALITY OF RULING AUTHORITY IN LEBANON THAT WASTES PUBLIC MONEY, THRIVES ON BEGGING

MP Ibrahim Mneimneh wrote today on the ‘X’ platform: ‘We regret the approach of begging in the name of the Lebanese, which was expressed by the Minister of Economy through requesting #Kuwait to build wheat silos in Lebanon with the stroke of a pen#…This statement expresses the mentality of the ruling authority in Lebanon, which wastes public money and thrives on begging for loans and gifts to evade financial and economic reforms…There is no doubt that this statement constituted an insult not only to Kuwait but also to the Lebanese and their state. It would have been better for His Excellency the Minister to work on a comprehensive economic vision, which in turn ensures the implementation of the required reforms by the International Monetary Fund and also secures a recovery of the national economy by restoring the confidence of the international community in the Lebanese state and attracting foreign investments, without the need to beg and plead for aid in the name of the Lebanese people!”

SFD signs $77 million loan agreement to establish solar power plant in Belize

The CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, today signed a development loan agreement with the Prime Minister of Belize, John Antonio Briceño. The agreement, provided by the Saudi Fund for Development for $77 million, aims to finance the construction of a solar power plant in Belize.

The signing ceremony was attended by Christopher Coy, the Belizean Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, along with several officials from both sides.

The agreement reflects the Fund’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in developing countries and small island states globally. Since its establishment in 1975, the SFD has successfully implemented over 700 projects and development programs in 90 countries.

The project’s primary objective is to build a 60-megawatt solar power plant, complete with the supply and equipment of solar panels, to reduce emissions in the energy sector by an estimated 60,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually through system efficiency and consumption. Moreover, the project is expected to have a significant impact on stimulating social growth and creating direct and indirect job opportunities. It will also enhance the quality of electricity and promote environmental sustainability by addressing climate change through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Belizean Prime Minister Briceño said, “The solar power plant project comes at the right time, as Belize deems it necessary to increase its production of solar energy due to economic inflation, and most importantly, the project is in line with our country’s policy to focus on supporting renewable energy, and this brings many benefits to Belize including cost savings, energy independence, environmental sustainability, job creation, and improved access to electricity for rural communities.”

For his part, SFD CEO Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad said: “The agreement represents an important step towards strengthening the existing development cooperation between the Fund and Belize, to contribute to the development of the clean energy sector in Belize, and to meet the basic needs of the population in enhancing access to electricity, and limiting the effects of global climate change, as well as promoting Belize’s economic and social growth.”
