Oman Takes Part in Extraordinary Session Meeting of Arab Electricity Council

The Sultanate of Oman took part in the extraordinary session meeting of the Arab Electricity Ministers Council, which was held at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

The Sultanate of Oman was represented in the meeting by Abdullah Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

The meeting discussed a set of topics, including the general agreement to establish the Arab Common Electricity Market.

GCC Secretary General: Preliminary GCC-Pakistan FTA Reflects Importance of Strengthening Trade Relations with Countries, Blocs

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, stated that the preliminary free trade agreement (FTA) between the GCC and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan comes in recognition of the importance of strengthening trade relations and economic cooperation with countries and international blocs.

The statement came during the signing ceremony of the preliminary FTA between the council and Pakistan, with the agreement being signed by both the GCC Secretary General and Pakistani Commerce Minister, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, on Thursday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.

The GCC Secretary General also noted that this historic economic agreement represents an important turning point in cooperation and would contribute to growth and prosperity in a way that serves the common interests of both sides, as it emphasizes the vital importance of close cooperation between countries to strengthen economic relations.

Albudaiwi stressed that the GCC countries are proceeding with free-trade negotiations with other countries, aiming to open and enhance the prospects for trade and economic cooperation for the council member states regionally and internationally.

He also voiced his thanks and appreciation to the GCC negotiating teams and the General Secretariat for their efforts and dedication during the negotiation process.

IsDB President, Suriname Finance Minister Discuss Enhancing Cooperation

Finance and Planning Minister Stanley Raghoebarsing of the Republic of Suriname said the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is committed to funding projects that influence citizens’ lives in the social and economic fields in his country.

Raghoebarsing made the remarks in a meeting here today with IsDB President and Group Chairman Mohammed Al-Jasser attended by several Surinamese ministers.

The Surinamese finance minister hailed development cooperation with the IsDB, saying it brings valuable experience and achieves macroeconomic stability to investors.

The meeting also discussed development projects, Islamic funding, affordable housing, investments, as well as training in the health sector.

The projects funded by the IsDB focus on human capital and economic and social development, Al-Jasser said, hailing the restructuring of macroeconomic policies in Suriname.

Political Committee of Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council Concludes Meeting

Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, chaired the second meeting of the Political Coordination Committee of the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council in Manama on Thursday.

At the meeting’s onset, the two parties evaluated their bilateral relations and deliberated on diverse methods to enhance and develop them bilaterally and multilaterally in the international arena. The discussions were conducted within the Political Coordination Committee’s framework. The parties examined numerous initiatives to deepen and strengthen cooperation between them, leading to more extensive horizons and fulfilling the leaders of both countries’ aspirations and their peoples’ interests.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and Dr. Al-Zayani chaired the first meeting of the preparatory committee for the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council. The progress made by the council and its committees in the past period was reviewed, and the latest developments and preparations for the third council meeting were discussed.

At the meeting, the committee evaluated the advancements achieved by the sub-committees and deliberated on the proposals presented during the council’s second meeting in Manama on November 9th, 2021.

Additionally, they scrutinized a roster of upcoming initiatives projected to be launched at the third meeting of the council, along with a list of draft agreements and memoranda of understanding that will be signed between the parties during the meeting.

The two sides praised the cooperation and coordination between the sub-committees and working groups of the Coordinating Council, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this pace to achieve common goals.

At the end of the meeting, the minutes of the second Political Coordination Committee meeting and the first preparatory committee meeting of the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council were signed.

Security Council members condemn attack on BDF taskforce

The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the “egregious and escalatory drone attack”, attributed to the Houthis, on members of the Bahrain Defence Forces (BDF) of the Kingdom of Bahrain serving as part of the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, at the southern border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which led to several death and injuries.

A statement issued by the members of the Security council said the attack constituted a serious threat to the peace process and regional stability, including in Yemen.

The members of the Security Council also called on the Houthis to end all terrorist attacks, reiterating concern at the targeting of civilian infrastructure in cities at the southern border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the statement said.

“The members of the Security Council further called on all parties to respect their obligations under International Law, including

International Humanitarian Law.”

The members of the Security Council stressed that any escalation would only exacerbate the suffering of the Yemeni population.

They reiterated the need for decisive steps towards a sustainable ceasefire and underlined their continued strong support for efforts toward a political settlement and ultimately ending the suffering of the Yemeni people.

They also reiterated their support for United Nations Special Envoy Hans Grundberg in his efforts towards a negotiated, inclusive, Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned political settlement based on the agreed references and consistent with relevant Security council resolutions

Saudi Fund for Development, Seychelles sign $25 million development loans

CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad signed today two development loan agreements with Seychelles Minister of Finance, National Planning and Trade Naadir Hassan.

Through the loans, the SFD is contributing $25 million to support the social housing project in the Seychelles and the reconstruction of La Digue School project, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The first loan agreement worth $15 million will contribute to establishing residential buildings for low-income families in various regions of the country.

Meanwhile, the second agreement worth $10 million will help provide a modern educational environment in the Seychelles.

Since its establishment in 1974, the SFD has implemented 700 development projects and programs in more than 90 countries with a value surpassing $18.7 billion.

Bahraini Ambassador to US participates in round-table dialogue session

Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Bahraini Ambassador to the US, participated in a round-table dialogue session with Blayne Arthur, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture, on the sidelines of his visit to the State of Oklahoma.

The Ambassador highlighted the commercial and investment advantages enjoyed by the Kingdom of Bahrain, including the establishment of the US Free Trade Zone, which provides priority to American companies in enhancing commercial, industrial and economic cooperation and contributes to the advancement of trade relations and investment cooperation between the two countries, in accordance with the advantages of their Free Trade Agreement, as well as the investment opportunities available in the region, especially those aimed at enhancing food security.

A number of senior representatives of the food industries in the USA took part in the dialogue session. They praised the close relations between the two countries in various fields, hailing Bahrain’s continued efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. They also expressed their appreciation for the commitment shown by the kingdom to achieve zero neutrality by 2060, as part of its commitment to the goals of the United Nations.

The envoy expressed his thanks to the participants in the round-table session, praising the fruitful results of his visit to the state of Oklahoma.

Bahrain condemns terrorist bombings in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces in Pakistan

The Kingdom of Bahrain has condemned the two terrorist bombings that took place in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, resulting in a number of deaths and injuries.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s rejection of all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism, affirming Bahrain’s solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the government of Pakistan and its people, and to the families of the victims of this heinous act, wishing those injured a speedy recovery.

Al-Sudani receives a telegram of condolence and sympathy from the Kuwaiti PM regarding Al-Hamdaniya fire accident

Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received today, Thursday, a telegram of condolences and sympathy from the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, regarding the fire accident in Al-Hamdaniya district in Nineveh Governorate.

In the telegram, Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah expressed that the Kuwaiti government and people share the sorrows of this unfortunate incident, expressing to Al-Sudani and the families of the victims his sincere condolences and deep sympathy, praying to the Almighty God to grant the victims his great forgiveness, and to grant the injured a speedy recovery.
