HAMIEH: IRAQI TRANSPORT MINISTER INFORMED SPEAKER BERRI OF IRAQ’S INVITATION TO LEBANON TO BE PART OF “DEVELOPMENT PATH”

Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamieh, indicated in an issued statement today, that the meeting with House Speaker Nabih Berri came as a conclusion to the round of meetings and tours with the Iraqi Minister of Transport and the accompanying delegation during their visit to Beirut. He added that they briefed the Speaker on the outcomne of their talks, especially with regard to the “path of development” and Iraq’s call for Lebanon to be part of it, through branching inside Syria, where they looked into the possibility of making the ports of Beirut and Tripoli its sea outlet.

AL-MAKARY VISITS “OUR LADY OF AL-HARA” MONASTERY IN TABBANEH

Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Al-Makary, visited this afternoon the Monastery of ‘Our Lady of Al-Hara’ in Tabbaneh in the North, accompanied by “Marada Movement” political bureau member, Rafli Diab, and the head of the “March Association”, Leah Baroudi. They were received at the monastery by Father George Jreij on behalf of the Pastor of the Maronite Diocese of Tripoli, Youssef Soueif, who welcomed Al-Makary on this first time visit by an information minister to the region ‘which comes as a support to the path of coexistence in an oasis for all.’ Makary thanked Father Jreij for his warm welcome, saying: “I am pleased today to be present in Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen and here in this monastery, and I say that when you are ignorant of the other, you naturally find a way to disagree with him, but that really dissipates through the exchange of knowledge and convergence…What happened in this region is that people met and converged.’ He added: “When you sit with the other and you are free from all the burdens that weigh you down, from poverty to lack of knowledge and political, sectarian and confessional differences, you must find your way to understanding and dialogue, and as March builds bridges of communication through intensive and qualitative work, in turn, the parish here in Tebbaneh is carrying out basic and continuous work…all in the absence of the state, unfortunately, which has never seriously paid attention to this region.’

Syria participates in Arab Sports Games in Algeria

Syria’s national sport teams will participate in the 15th Arab Sports Games, set to be hosted by Algeria from 5th-15th July, and include 14 sports under the supervision of the Federation of Arab National Olympic Committees.

Seven Algerian cities will host the activities of the competitions, with the aim of consolidating the Arab youth unity, enhancing friendship among the Arab peoples and devoting the principles of the Arab Olympic movement.

The Syrian sport team will comprise 105 athletes, according to Head of the Syrian Olympic Committee Firas Mualla.

Syria’s sport teams’ participation in this Arab event has a special importance, particularly following a long hiatus for about 15 years, Mualla said, pointing out that the General Sport League sought to hold external camps in several states, including Russia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Iraq and other states.

Syria participates in 14 games including U-23 football, athletics, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, karate, judo, weightlifting, cycling, swimming, gymnastics, badminton, chess and special sports.

The comprehensive settlement process in Daraa province continued according to the items proposed by the State.

Hundreds of those who are willing to have their files settled from Busra al-Sham area, Daraa countryside, joined the comprehensive settlement process in Qasr al-Houriyat center, Daraa city.

Last Thursday, 2200 persons joined the comprehensive settlement process in Qasr al-Houriyat center, Daraa city, which the competent authorities has reopened to settle the status of the wanted persons and deserters from military service.

Foreign Ministry: Lebanese people and army bravely confront Israeli aggression on Kafr Shuba area

Syria extended greetings to the Lebanese people and army for their brave defend of the land of Lebanon and its sovereignty against the Israeli aggression that took place in Kafr Shuba area yesterday, stressing that these aggressions will only result in successive failures and continuous defeats.

The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said, in a statement on Saturday, that the Lebanese people and army has courageously and valiantly confronted over the last day, the Israeli aggression on south Lebanon in Kafr Shuba area, as the Lebanese brave men confronted the Israeli attempts to undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and its territorial dignity.

The Ministry added that the Israeli occupation army’s schemes and its continued aggression turned on the Zionist entity which was targeting to change the geographic features of the area.

The Foreign Ministry concluded by saying that the Syrian Arab Republic extends greetings to the Lebanese people and army for defending the land of Lebanon and its sovereignty, and strongly condemns the Israeli continued aggression on Lebanon which will only result in successive failures and continuous defeats.

The Israeli occupation forces launched Friday an aggression with gas bombs against the people demonstrating against the bulldozing of their lands by the Israeli occupation forces in Kafr Shuba and Arqoub.

Syria, Iran discuss bilateral relations

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian discussed Saturday bilateral relations between Syria and Iran and the positive developments on the Arab and regional arenas.

In a phone conversation, both sides discussed a number of issues of mutual concern and the need to implement bilateral agreements reached during the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Syria.

A new truce in Sudan under the auspices of Saudi Arabia and the US

Saudi Arabia and the United States announced today, Friday, that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have agreed to a 24-hour cease-fire throughout the country, which will take effect tomorrow, Saturday, at six in the morning.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated in a statement / according to SPA /: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America announce that representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have reached a ceasefire agreement in all parts of Sudan for a period of 24 hours, starting from six o’clock in the morning on June 10, 2023, Khartoum time.

The statement stressed that the two parties to the conflict in Sudan will abide by stopping the attacks and artillery shelling, and they are also committed to delivering humanitarian aid to the affected people.

Saudi Arabia and America stressed that they share the Sudanese people’s frustration over non-compliance with the previous truces.

The statement indicated: In the event that the parties to the conflict in Sudan do not adhere to the armistice, we will be forced to postpone the Jeddah talks.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs discusses with his French counterpart the preliminary steps for preparations for the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership in its third edition

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, discussed with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the international coalition against ISIS, which is taking place in Riyadh, the initial steps for preparations for the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership in its third edition.

The two sides discussed, according to a statement by the Ministry, the promotion of bilateral relations in various fields, and ways to enhance consultation and coordination between Baghdad and Paris.

Hussein expressed his thanks to the French government for its positions in support of Iraq in various fields.

The two Ministers discussed the initial steps for preparations for the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership in its third edition, which will be held in Baghdad at the end of this year.

Hussein confirmed: The upcoming Baghdad conference will focus on the economic relations of Iraq’s neighboring countries and how to transform economic integration.

The two sides also discussed developments in the regional situation and easing tensions between the countries of the region.

GCC-Iraq power interconnection project launched

The GCC Interconnection Grid is one of the most strategic projects in the region, said Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Yaser bin Ibrahim Humaidan.

He stressed the contribution of the project contributed in reducing the cases of partial and total outages of the Gulf networks, by providing instant support through power transmission.

The minister made the statement as he attended a ceremony hosted in the city of Khobar in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to launch the power interconnection project between the GCC countries and the Republic of Iraq.

He indicated that the project will reinforce cooperation and meet part of the demand for electric energy, especially in southern Iraq, in addition to supplying Iraqi electrical grid with at least 500 Megawatts.

He noted Bahrain’s drive to strengthen joint cooperation with other countries in an integrated manner, including infrastructure projects and basic services, and achieve the desired development goals to achieve sustainability, in line with the vision by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

“Connection with Iraq will contribute to increasing the economic operation of the network at the regional level in preparation for expansion at the Arab and international levels, as well as increasing reliability and raising energy efficiency in the Gulf network”, he said.

Labour Minister highlights Bahrain’s labour developments

Labour Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan met the Director General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Gilbert Houngboand discussed joint cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 111th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), being held in Geneva, Switzerland on June 5-16.

The minister noted Bahrain’s keenness on developing national labour systems and legislations, stressing the Kingdom’s continued efforts towards creating many initiatives that reflect its commitment to international labor standards.

He also highlighted Bahrain’s initiatives and projects to promote labour rights and ensure equality between the various groups of workers, in addition to regulating labor relations and developing business and productivity.

Humaidan also held meetings with labour ministers and heads of delegations and international and Arab organisations and explored prospects of joint cooperation.

Humaidan also held a meeting with the Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi and discussed the role of the organization in following up on labour issues in Arab countries.
