Foreign Minister Meets with Swiss Counterpart


Riyadh: Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah met today with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) special meeting.

The two ministers discussed bilateral relations, the means to strengthen them, the latest regional and international developments, and the efforts to address them.

BERRI AFTER MEETING WITH FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER: LEBANON IS COMMITTED TO IMPLEMENTING RESOLUTION 1701 IN ALL ITS ASPECTS, AWAITS FRENCH PROPOSAL AIMED AT REDUCING ESCALATION, STOPPING FIGHTING


Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, received today at Ain al-Tineh Palace, French Foreign Minister Stephane Séjourné accompanied by French Ambassador Herve Magro, Director of North Africa and the Middle East in the French Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Anne Greux, and several advisors in the French Foreign Ministry.

Discussions focused on the general situation in Lebanon and the region and the political and field developments as a result of Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

Speaker Berri thanked France for its keenness and valuable role, and President Emmanuel Macron for his efforts to prevent the war on Lebanon. In this context, the Speaker was clear on Lebanon’s adherence to implementing UN Resolution # 1701 with all its provisions.

Berri also presented the facts of the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, especially the southern border villages, through a map prepared by the National Council for Scientific Research showing the extent of the human and material losses inflicted on vill
ages and towns, as well as agricultural and forest lands and plains, and Israel’s use of internationally prohibited weapons and its violation of the rules of engagement.

The Speaker assured the French Minister that Lebanon is awaiting the French proposal to reduce the escalation, stop the fighting, and implement the UN resolution, in preparation for studying and responding to it.

Regarding the presidential dossier, Berri praised the efforts of the five-member states committee to reach, through consultation, the election of a Lebanese president.

He also raised the issue of the displaced Syrians, ‘which has become a burden on Lebanon and the Lebanese at various levels,’ revealing that he ‘will raise this matter with the President of the European Union Commission and the President of Cyprus during their visit to Lebanon this week,’ calling on France and Germany to ‘reconsider their relationship with Syria and towards this file.’

The French Foreign Minister made no statement following the meeting.

The Foreign Minister discusses with his Bahraini counterpart strengthening bilateral relations


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, received on Sunday the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, in Baghdad.

During the meeting, they reviewed the fraternal bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to strengthen and develop them to serve common interests.

The agenda of the 33rd Arab Summit scheduled to be held next month in Bahrain was discussed, as its holding coincides with the presence of many challenges.

In this regard, the Minister stressed that Iraq seeks to have an effective role in this summit and is working to achieve high-level coordination with the Arab brothers to make the summit a success.

The two sides also discussed the regional developments taking place in the region, especially the current events in Gaza and the continued attacks by the occupying authority in the Palestinian territories, and the two parties agreed on the need to intensify joint efforts to achieve stability in the region.

National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji and President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, confirmed the support of the government program in implementing its paragraphs and paths within the specified timings.

The Chancellery stated in a statement: ‘The meeting discussed the overall issues and common files, and the continuation of cooperation and coordination between the center and the region through visions and common interests that will enhance the security and stability of the country in general.’

Foreign Minister Chairs Meeting of Ministerial Committee Assigned by Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Developments in the Gaza Strip


Riyadh: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, chaired in Riyadh today, Sunday, the meeting of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Developments in the Gaza Strip. The committee members who participated in the meeting were the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Al Safadi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Trkiye, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Minister of Civil Affairs, Hussein Al Sheikh, and the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.

The meeting discussed the mechanisms of intensifying joint Arab and Islamic work to reach
an immediate cessation to end the war on the Gaza Strip and ensure the protection of civilians by international humanitarian law, in addition to continuing all efforts aimed at international recognition of an independent Palestinian state, to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people and sustainable and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the strip.

The meeting also discussed working on taking the necessary steps to implement the two-state solution and recognizing the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, by the relevant international resolutions, stressing that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory and their categorical rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, and any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah.

The ministers stressed the need for the international community to impose effective sanctions on Israel, including stopping the export of w
eapons to it in response to its violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the war crimes it is committing in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The ministers also stressed the need to activate international legal tools to hold accountable Israelis responsible for these crimes and the need to stop settler terrorism and take clear and strict positions against it.

The ministers also expressed their concern about the measures taken against peaceful demonstrators in Western countries to demand an end to the war in Gaza and the Israeli severe crimes and violations against the Palestinians.

Al-Amiri and Barzani discuss budget files, salaries, and regional elections


Head of the Nebni Alliance, Hadi Al-Amiri, received in his office in Baghdad today, Sunday, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and his accompanying delegation.

According to a statement by Al-Amiri’s office, the two sides discussed the general situation, the most prominent political developments and joint files, and presented the best solutions regarding the controversial issues existing between the federal government and the regional government, including the budget and salaries, in addition to discussing the Kurdistan Parliament elections.

They emphasized the importance of continuing national rapprochement, continuing political understanding, and adopting constructive dialogue and legal and constitutional foundations in order to reach a settlement of all outstanding issues.

Al-Sudani expressed Iraq’s aspiration for broader economic cooperation with the Kingdom, which contributes to enhancing growth and provides new opportunities in various economic fields, which reflects the interests of the two brotherly countries and the prosperity of their people.

For his part, the Saudi Crown Prince welcomed the Prime Minister and expressed his thanks for accepting the invitation and participating in the World Economic Forum, stressing Saudi Arabia’s keenness to achieve the best relations

The meeting touched on the situation in Gaza, and the killing and starvation that the Palestinian people are witnessing at the hands of the occupation forces, and stressed the need to make great efforts to stop the war, the effects of which were reflected in regional and international stability.
