Dismantling an extortion network led by a terrorist outside Iraq


Baghdad, The Iraqi National Security Service announced the dismantling of an extortion network led by a terrorist outside Iraq.

The Service stated in a statement: ‘According to intelligence information about the presence of a person blackmailing citizens in Nineveh Governorate, judicial approvals were obtained to set up an ambush to overthrow him red-handed.’

He added: “When the aforementioned accused was arrested, it turned out that he works as a driver who delivers money to Kirkuk Governorate, and under his agent, and in coordination with the Service’s detachments in Kirkuk, the person responsible for receiving the money, who is a 52-year-old woman, was arrested.”

He continued: ‘After in-depth investigation, it became clear that the accused was sending money again to Nineveh to another accused – who was also arrested. He was transferring it to a person who was found to be working within ISIS terrorist gangs and living outside Iraq, where he hacked into citizens’ accounts on social media sites and blackma
iled them in exchange for Large sums of money.’
