KRG denies smuggling weapons from the Kurdistan to Iran

Baghdad The Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq denied today, Saturday, the existence of arms smuggling operations from its territory towards Iran.

KRG spokesman Jutiar Adel said in a statement: “Iranian news websites have published a story by John Bolton, who does not currently hold any governmental or official position for the United States of America, that weapons are smuggling through the Kurdistan region to the Republic of Iran.”

He added: The Kurdistan Regional Government categorically denies this news, which has been repeated for a long time.

He explained: The regional government has not, and will not, allow in any way to tamper with the security of any neighboring country through the territory of the Kurdistan region, pointing out that such news is untrue and just lies.

The Associated Press quoted the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Qaani, as telling Iraqi officials that Iran would launch a ground attack on the Kurdistan region, in the event that measures were not tightened on the borders and against the Iranian Kurdistan parties.

Iran accuses the Iraqi Kurdistan parties of encouraging demonstrations against the government, and of sending weapons to Iranian Kurdistan, but the Iranian government has not yet provided any evidence to prove the validity of these allegations.
