Minister of Environment Inaugurates Saudi Water Forum Tomorrow

Riyadh: Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli is slated to inaugurate the third edition of the Saudi Water Forum here tomorrow to discuss the challenges facing the water sector and come up with solutions to address them.

The three-day forum, organized by the ministry under the theme “Water Sustainability: Our Responsibility”, is bound to draw broad participation from among decision makers and government officials, water experts and specialists from the Kingdom and abroad, and local and international private sector companies. It will feature more than 2,000 participants from 35 countries and 133 speakers.

Dr. Abdulaziz AlShaibani, the deputy-minister for water and head of the forum’s organizing committee, said that Saudi Arabia has achieved numerous accomplishments in the water sector in the course of reaching the targets of the National Water Strategy. The strategy aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim, among others, to ensure
the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation services, and preserve water resources.

AlShaibani said that Saudi Arabia has made unprecedented strides in water production and treatment despite being one of the world’s most water-scarce countries.

He also said that the Kingdom’s efforts to ensure the sustainability of water resources led it to contribute to global endeavors to adopt solutions to water challenges and management.

AlShaibani said that the establishment of a global water organization based in Riyadh, announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is an important step and testimony to Saudi Arabia’s leading role in working to address water issues internationally.

AlShaibani said the Kingdom strives to achieve SDGs and exerts continuous efforts within G20, discussing and addressing water-related topics, which resulted in it winning the bid to host the 11th World Water Forum in 2027.
