Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Sworn-in as Somalia’s New President

Mogadishu, May 16, 2022, SPA — President-elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took the outh today, one day after he has been chosen to become the 10th President of the Republic of Somalia.

Following the event, the new president pledged before the parliament to work to narrow the gap among Somali political foes and rivals, solve all differences according to law and seek to achieve prosperity and progress of the country.

Saudi Telecommunications Delegation Concludes Partnerships with US Pioneering Companies on Capacity Development and Digital Skills, Enhancement of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Riyadh, May 16, 2022, SPA — A Saudi delegation, led by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Alswaha met in the city of Mount View, US California state, with the founder and CEO of Coursera communications company Jeff Magioncalda, it was reported here today.

During the meeting, which took place yesterday, they discussed a host of issues regarding concepts of capacity development and digital skills for the new generations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to further support the growth of the digital economy in accordance with the skills of the 21st century and the new realities of capacity building development.

The delegation was briefed on Coursera’s future vision including the aggressive investment capital idea to explore startup enterprises systems and discussed the digital skills, capacity building and upgrading the digital caders in Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Haitham Al-Ohaly met with Gabriel Dalporto, CEO of Udacity company, attended by senior officials of the two sides.

During the meeting, partnership in the field of empowering digital caders of the two sides was discussed as well as ways of enhancing innovation future and digital economy growth and entrepreneurship in the Kingdom.

The meeting is in complaince with a cooperation agreement signed between the company and the Saudi Digital Academy on the sidelines of LEAP international conference last February.

The meetings are part of a tour of the US communication, information technology, research and innovation companies, currently being made by Minister Alswaha and the accompanying delegation, aiming to reach strategic partnerships with US conglomerates to enhance the digital economy growth and innovation-and-knowledge-based economy in the Kingdom.

Ruler, Crown Prince of Fujairah Congratulate Custodian of Two Holy Mosques on Being Discharged from Hospital

Fujairah– Sheikh Hamad bin Mohamed Al-Sharqi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, in a cable, has congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the occasion of leaving the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah after conducting some medical tests and completing treatment plan and recovery period.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Mohamed Al-Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, also sent a similar cable to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques on the occasion.

The Ruler and Crown Prince prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques long life and continuous health, wishing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia further progress, prosperity, security and safety under his wise leadership.

Republic of Burkina Faso Announces Support for Saudi Arabia’s Bid to Host Expo 2030 in Riyadh

Ouagadougou, May 16, 2022, SPA — Republic of Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation and Burkina Faso’s expatriates abroad Olivia Rwamba announced her country’s full support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the Expo 2030 in Riyadh.

In a joint press conference today following a meeting of Advisor at the Saudi Royal Court Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Qattan with President Pall-Henry Sandaogo Damiba of the Republic of Burkina Faso at the presidential palace in Ouagadougou, she stated that her country supports Saudi Arabia’s bid to host Expo 2030 in Riyadh.

For his part, Advisor Qattan expressed the thanks and appreciation of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this support, noting that it is stemmed from the distinguished relations between the two countries.

Egypt to Host 2022 Annual Meetings of Islamic Development Bank Group in Sharm El Sheikh

Cairo, Egypt– Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Islamic Development Bank Group is to hold its 2022 Annual Meetings in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from 1-4 June 2022, under the theme “Beyond Recovery: Resilience and Sustainability”.

Ministers of Economy, Planning, and Finance from 57 member countries of the Bank will participate in these Meetings.

Representatives of international and regional financial institutions, as well as representatives of Islamic banks, national development finance institutions, and unions of contractors and consultants from OIC member countries, will also attend the activities associated with these meetings.

This year’s Meetings will also witness – for the first time over four days – the holding of a new edition of the IsDB Group Private Sector Forum, in which representatives of major companies and the business community at the local, regional and international levels are expected to take part.

The 2022 Annual Meetings of the IsDB Group will feature “the 47th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank”, “the 29th Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC)”, and “the 22nd General Assembly of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD)”.

In the same context, “the 17th Meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC)”, and “the 15th Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD)” will also be held.

Islamic Development Bank President and Group Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser said that IsDB Group is looking forward to promoting the successful cooperation with Egypt, noting that Egypt’s initiative to host the IsDB Group Annual Meetings this year is an indication of its desire to continue playing its regional role at all levels, the foremost of which is achieving further socio-economic development.

Dr. Al Jasser then added that the Bank’s Board of Governors’ approval to hold the Meetings in Egypt is indicative of the Board’s appreciation of the leading role of the Arab Republic of Egypt in supporting IsDB Group, and its continuous efforts to support constructive partnerships at various levels.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and IsDB Governor for Egypt, said several important side events will be organized, including the Business Forum for the Private Sector and several events related to the preparations for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in November 2022, the green economy, achieving sustainable growth and confronting climate change, and other important international issues.

KSrelief Supervisor General Meets with CEO of Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations

Riyadh– Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah in Riyadh today met with CEO of Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) Dr. Richard Hatchett.

During the meeting, both sides discussed means to enhance cooperation related to providing suitable vaccines to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and other contagious diseases to support needy countries that suffer from weak health sectors and study mechanisms to support CEPI to transfer the technology of manufacturing vaccines and benefit from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s logistic and humanitarian role in this regard.

Dr. Hatchett praised the support offered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by KSrelif, to help CEPI develop anti-COVID-19 vaccines and offer them to the needy, referring to the solid strategic relations between the two sides.

Saudi Stock Exchange Main Index Ends Trading Lower at 12,689.87 Points

Riyadh– Saudi Stock Exchange’s main index ended trading lower here today, losing 225.02 points to close at 12,689.87 points.

The total value of the trading reported was SAR 9.9 billion, while the toll of shares traded was over 204 million, divided into over 451,000 deals.

The Saudi Parallel Equity Market Index (NOMU) ended the day gaining 146.60 points, to close at 22,687.47 points, with a valuation of SAR 23 million and an overall tally of more than 384,000 stocks traded and divided into as many as 1,410 deals.

Custodian of Two Holy Mosques Discharged from King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah after Having Successfully Conducted Medical Tests and Completed Treatment Plan and Recovery Period, Royal Court Statement Reports

Jeddah, May 15, 2022, SPA — The Royal Court issued today the following statement: “The Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was discharged today, Sunday May 15, 2022 from King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah after having successfully conducted medical tests and completed the prescribed treatment plan as well as the recovery period”.

In this regard, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques extended his thanks to and appreciation of all males and females of the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their kind feelings and blessings. He also extended his appreciation of whoever contacted him or sent his wishes of health to him, including Their Majesties, Excellencies, Highnesses, the leaders of Arab, Islamic and friendly countries.

May Allah Almighty grant the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques continuous health and happiness.
