PM: An Upcoming Visit By A Senior Iraqi Delegation To Italy To Discuss Cooperation Mechanisms Between The Two Countries

The Prime Minister, Muhammad Al-Sudani, announced upcoming visit of a high-ranking Iraqi delegation to Italy to discuss cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.

The media office of the Prime Minister stated: “al-Sudani met today, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Italy, Guido Crosetto, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi, and a number of military leaders.”

It added, “The meeting dealt with the progress of relations between the two friendly countries, and ways to consolidate joint cooperation in the security fields at various levels.”

During the meeting, the Prime Minister praised Italy’s role in combating terrorism and eliminating ISIS gangs, through the international coalition, and its role in training the Iraqi security forces within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission.

He referred to the distinguished relationship between Iraq and Italy, through bilateral cooperation in various fields, stressing Iraq’s desire to work within these tracks, in a way that serves common interests and the security of the region and the world.

The Prime Minister indicated that Iraq and Italy have great and promising opportunities for cooperation in several fields, benefiting from the experience of Italian companies in the field of health, education and industry, optimal use of water, and entering into industrial and economic partnerships.

He confirmed an upcoming visit by a high-ranking Iraqi delegation to Italy to discuss cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.

For his part, the guest minister conveyed the Italian Prime Minister’s greetings to the Prime Minister, and the desire for more mutual cooperation between the two countries, stressing his country’s aspiration for the upcoming visit of the Iraqi delegation and discuss in many cooperation files, which will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries, especially as Italy looks with interest at Iraq and its pivotal role in managing peace files in the region and the world.

The Italian Minister of Defense also confirmed the continuation of security cooperation with Iraq in the field of training the Iraqi security forces.
