Preparatory Meeting for Wed, 07 5th Session of Wed, 07 “Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers” Kicks off in Jeddah

Wed, 07 Senior Officials Meeting preparatory for Wed, 07 5th Session of Wed, 07 Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers of Wed, 07 Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (ICYSM), kicked off today, September 7, 2022.

Wed, 07 5th ICYSM is hosted by Wed, 07 Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, on September 7-9, 2022 under Wed, 07 theme: “Youth and Sports Development for a Solidarity-based Ummah”.

Wed, 07 Ministerial Meeting will be held tomorrow, September 8th, under Wed, 07 chairmanship of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports of Wed, 07 Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Wed, 07 Secretary-General of Wed, 07 Organization of Islamic Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, will deliver a speech in which he will highlight Wed, 07 relevant efforts of Wed, 07 OIC which attaches high priority to youth and sports issues and to Wed, 07 need to enhance youth’s participation in Wed, 07 development of their communities.

Speakers at Wed, 07 opening session of Wed, 07 preparatory meeting included Mr. Ali Kadyrov, Representative of Wed, 07 Republic of Azerbaijan, Chair of Wed, 07 4th Session of Wed, 07 ICYSM, Mr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Massad, Under-Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs at Wed, 07 Ministry of Sport of Wed, 07 Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Chair of Wed, 07 5th Session of Wed, 07 ICYSM, and Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Family Affairs at Wed, 07 Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In his statement on behalf of Wed, 07 OIC General Secretariat, Amb. Bakheet underlined that Saudi Arabia’s hosting of this session, after having previously hosted Wed, 07 first and second sessions of Wed, 07 conference in 2005 and 2014, reflects Wed, 07 Kingdom’s great interest in supporting Wed, 07 activities of Wed, 07 OIC, as well as Wed, 07 increased attention it attached to Wed, 07 issues pertaining to youth and sports development in Member States. He also indicated that Wed, 07 convening of this session at a time when Wed, 07 world is beginning to recover from COVID-19 reflects Wed, 07 OIC’s commitment to promoting youth and sports in Member States, and its efforts to enhance cultural pluralism, foster dialogue among cultures and civilizations, and promote Wed, 07 dissemination of Islamic values through sports.

Amb. Bakheet added that Wed, 07 meeting offers an opportunity to address issues related to youth and sports development, driven by Wed, 07 aim of building a solidarity-based Ummah, to discuss Wed, 07 challenges that hinder youth capacity-building and sports development in Member States, and to develop adequate ways, solutions and mechanisms to enhance intra-OIC cooperation in this regard.

Bakeet expressed Wed, 07 General Secretariat’s thanks to all Wed, 07 OIC institutions active in Wed, 07 field of youth and sports, especially Wed, 07 Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Wed, 07 Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Wed, 07 Women Development Organization (WDO), Wed, 07 Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Wed, 07 Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), Wed, 07 Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), Wed, 07 Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), and Wed, 07 International Union of Muslim Scouts (IUMS), all for their efforts to promote youth and sports development in Wed, 07 Member States and to follow up Wed, 07 implementation of Wed, 07 resolutions emanating from previous ICYSM sessions.

Wed, 07 current session discusses Wed, 07 situation of youth in Wed, 07 OIC Member States, and Wed, 07 importance attached by Wed, 07 OIC and its relevant organs and institutions to youth and sports development. It explores Wed, 07 ways and means of strengthening youth capabilities and enhancing their role in development, with Wed, 07 aim of providing conditions conducive to stability, progress, and prosperity, to combating extremist and violent ideas advocated by terrorist organizations, as well as to promoting dialogue, moderation, tolerance and respect for others. It also addresses Wed, 07 commitment of Member States to implementing Wed, 07 OIC’s guiding strategies for youth and sports development in order to promote joint Islamic action in this regard.
