Qatar re-evaluates its mediation in the “Gaza negotiations”

Jerusalem – Ma’an – Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman announced on Wednesday that Doha is in the process of “evaluating” the mediation role it has been playing for months between Israel and the Hamas movement to reach a ceasefire and exchange prisoners, noting that The Qatari role was ‘misused by some politicians for narrow interests.’

During a press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Doha, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman stated that the evaluation phase of the current mediation includes evaluating how the parties engage in it ‘because there is unacceptable exploitation and abuse.’

He added: “There is political bidding by some politicians for the sake of their election campaigns, by insulting the role of Qatar.”

While the Qatari Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s commitment to its role, he said, “There are limits to this role and the ability to which we can contribute to these negotiations constructively.”
