The first governorate producing yellow corn warns: Hundreds of thousands of tons are at risk of spoilage

Kirkuk The Kirkuk governorate administration warned of damage to hundreds of thousands of tons of yellow corn crop, which the governorate ranks first in cultivation and production.

The Governor of Kirkuk, Rakan al-Jubouri, said: “The province is witnessing a challenge due to the lack of storage space for the yellow corn crop, and the non-receipt of it by the receiving centers of the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade, which exposes the crop to damage.”

Al-Jubouri appealed to the Council of Ministers to find an urgent solution, indicating: “The province’s production is expected to reach more than 750,000 tons, which is the first in Iraq’s provinces.”

The Director of Kirkuk Agriculture, Zuhair Ali Hussein, said: “440 thousand tons of the yellow corn crop is threatened with damage after the marketing operations stopped due to the lack of financial allocations until it is received from the farmers,” noting: “The average of what was received of yellow corn by affiliated marketing centers for the Ministry of Agriculture, does not exceed 60 thousand tons, while Kirkuk produces more than 500 thousand tons annually.

For his part, Mahmoud al-Ezzi, head of the agricultural associations, called on the central government in Baghdad to find quick solutions and allocate the necessary sums of money to receive yellow corn from farmers due to the wave of rains the province is witnessing… stressing: “Thousands of tons have been damaged now.”
