The Minister of Trade discusses with the French Ambassador ways to develop economic and trade relations and increase the volume of trade exchange

Baghdad, The Minister of Trade, Atheer Dawoud Al-Ghurairy, discussed today, Monday, with the French Ambassador, Eric Chevalier, prospects for developing economic, trade and investment relations and increasing the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and France.

Al-Ghurairy stressed, according to a statement by the ministry, keenness to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries in a way that serves their common interests, as well as the ministry’s desire to open new horizons of cooperation with countries of the world, especially friendly France, by dealing with the ministry’s companies and their counterparts in France to reach joint agreements with them.

He explained the importance of having fruitful meetings, forums and gatherings with companies and businessmen from both sides in order to create real partnerships between them and establish investment projects in various fields and in both countries.

For his part, the French Ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to invite French companies to invest in Iraq and its endeavor to activate the joint committee between the two countries.

The two sides discussed several files, the most important of which is the customs file and the customs tariff, activating the role of the Iraqi-French Business Council, and attracting French companies through real participation in the upcoming Baghdad International Fair, as well as setting up factories to produce goods according to Iraqi desire inside Iraq.

The meeting discussed Iraq’s march to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the possibility of accelerating accession, as well as activating the role of the joint committee between Iraq and France, which has been suspended for five years.
