Saudi Press: Saudi Arabia continues to support Iraq at all levels

Riyadh, Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas.

Al-Bilad and Okaz newspapers reported in their editorials that the Saudi-Iraqi relations are witnessing an important stage of joint cooperation in all fields. This represents the keenness of the wise leadership in the two countries to strengthen and promote common interests.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been keen to support the security, sovereignty and stability of the Republic of Iraq. This is in addition to preserving its gains and strengthening relations through the outcomes of the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council. The 4th session of Saudi-Iraqi Coordinating Council also resulted in the establishment of a Saudi-Iraqi joint fund that has a capital estimated at USD 3 billion, as a contribution from Saudi Arabia in promoting investment in Iraq’s economic fields for the benefit of the Saudi and Iraqi economies, the newspaper added.

Within the same context, Saudi Arabia’s participation in Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership embodies the government’s keenness to support Iraq in order to achieve further development and stability.

During the conference, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leadership spares no effort in supporting Iraq at all levels. Saudi Arabia will continue to work to enhance Iraq’s security and stability, and preserve its institutions and gains, he added.

In another context, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enters with determination a new era of modern technologies.

In order to achieve development and modernity, Saudi Arabia launches programs and initiatives to achieve its goals. In this regard, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday announced the launch of a package of qualitative initiatives and technological programs with a total value of nearly SAR4 billion, the biggest technological launch of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa. This thing affirms Saudi Arabia’s serious desire to reach a high level of technical excellence, the newspaper said.

Shura Council’s Saudi-Argentinian Parliamentary Friendship Committee Meets Argentinian Ambassador on Occasion of End of His Term

Riyadh, Shura Council’s Saudi-Argentinian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, chaired by Council Member and Head of the Committee Dr. Ibrahim bin Mahmoud Al-Nahhas, at the council headquarters in Riyadh, here today held a meeting with Argentinian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Marcelo Gilardoni on the occasion of the end of his term.

The Head of the Committee praised the efforts of the Argentinian ambassador while in office in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which contributed to enhancing bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Argentina and developing ties between the Shura Council and the Argentinian Parliament.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed several issues of mutual interest between the two countries in various fields, mainly at the level of parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the Argentinian Parliament.

Lahij, The National Malaria Control Program yesterday in Lahij Governorate, Yemen, distributed medicines and special equipment for treating and inspecting malaria and dengue for several health facilities in the governorate. The assistance is financed by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and under the supervision of the World Health Organization.

Program Director in Lahij Adel Al-Sayyed said that “the program, since last March till today, has provided several health facilities with various amounts of medicines of malaria, in addition to malaria and dengue rapid test devices provided by KSrelief free of charge for all health facilities in the governorate”.

This comes as part of the projects that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia implements, through KSrelief, in the field of environmental sanitation in various Yemeni governorates.

Ministry of Health Reports 208 New COVID-19 Cases in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, The Ministry of Health announced today, in a statement, that 208 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, bringing the total number to 540,004, including 3,346 active cases.

Of these, there are 952 critical cases, while the health condition of the rest is stable, the statement said.

The statement added that six new deaths have been reported, putting the tally of fatalities at 8,532.

Meanwhile, as many as 393 cases have recovered, raising recoveries toll to 532,126, said the statement.

Saudi Arabia’s Non-oil Exports Report Highest Increase of 40.5% in June 2021

Riyadh, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s overall merchandise exports increased by 91.8% in June 2021 compared to June 2020, when international trade was impacted by Covid-related lockdowns and travel bans in numerous countries. The value of exports amounted to 84.7 billion riyals in June 2021, up from 44.2 billion riyals in June 2020. This increase originated mainly from oil exports, which rose by 33.7 billion riyals or 123.2% in the same period. The share of oil exports in total exports increased from 62.0% (June 2020) to 72.1% (June 2021). Compared to the previous month (May 2021), total merchandise exports increased by 2.5 billion riyals or 3.1%.

Non-oil exports increased by 40.5% year-on-year in June 2021, rising to 23.6 billion riyals from 16.8 billion riyals in June 2020. Of the most important non-oil goods, ‘Plastics and Rubber and Articles Thereof’ (34.4% of non-oil merchandise exports) increased by 68.0% 3.3 billion riyals) and ‘Products of the Chemical or Allied Industries’ (31.4% of non- oil merchandise exports) increased by 49.2% 2.4 billion riyals) from June 2020. Non-oil exports increased compared to the previous month (May 2021) by 1.6 billion riyals or 7.2%.

According to the International Trade June 2021 report, merchandise imports decreased by 0.2% (-0.1 billion riyals) in June 2021. The value of imports amounted to 46.0 billion riyals in June 2021 compared to 46.1 billion riyals in June 2020. This decrease was due to the decrease in many sectors compared to June 2020, mainly ‘Machinery and Mechanical Appliances; Electrical Equipment’ (-19.0%) and ‘Textiles and Textile Articles’ (-22.3%). Imports, however, increased compared to the previous month (May 2021), by 1.1 billion riyals or 2.5%.

The ratio of non-oil exports to imports increased to 51.3% in June 2021 from 36.4% in June 2020, as a result of an increase in non-oil exports (40.5%) in contrast to a decline in imports (0.2%) over that period.

According to the report, China is Saudi Arabia’s main trading partner for merchandise trade. In June 2021, exports to China amounted to 15.9 billion riyals (18.8% of total exports), making this country the main destination for exports of Saudi Arabia. Japan and U.S.A followed next with 8.3 billion riyals (9.8% of total exports) and 6.6 billion riyals (7.8% of total exports), respectively. India, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, Taiwan, and Singapore were the other countries that ranked in the top 10 destinations. Exports of Saudi Arabia to those 10 countries amounted to 56.6 billion riyals, accounting for 66.8% of total exports.

Imports from China amounted to 8.3 billion riyals (18.1% of total imports) in June 2021, making this country the main origin for imports of Saudi Arabia. United Arab Emirates and U.S.A followed next with imports of 4.5 billion riyals (9.9% of total imports) and 4.4 billion riyals (9.6% of total imports), respectively. India, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, United Kingdom and Egypt were the other countries that ranked in the top 10 countries for imports. Imports of Saudi Arabia from those 10 countries amounted to 28.8 billion riyals, accounting for 62.7% of total imports.

As many as 11.7 billion riyals of imports, corresponding to 25.3% of the total, entered the Kingdom from Jeddah Islamic Sea Port in June 2021. Among the other major ports of entry for the imports were King Abdulaziz Port (19.9%), King Khalid International Airport (10.9%), King Fahad Airport (7.8%), and Bat’ha (7.0%). Those five ports together accounted for 70.8% of the total merchandise imports of the Kingdom.

Riyadh, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s overall merchandise exports increased by 99.4% in Q2 2021 compared to Q2 2020, when international trade was impacted by Covid-related lockdowns and travel bans in numerous countries. The value of exports amounted to 238.6 billion riyals in Q2 2021, up from 119.7 billion riyals in Q2 2020. This increase originated mainly from oil exports, which rose by 96.5 billion riyals or 126.1% in the same period. The share of oil exports in total exports increased from 63.9% (Q2 2020) to 72.5% (Q2 2021). Compared to the previous quarter (Q1 2021), total merchandise exports increased by 26.1 billion riyals or 12.3%.

According to the General Authority for Statistics’ (GASTAT) International Trade Report, non-oil exports increased by 52.1% year-on-year in Q2 2021, rising to 65.7 billion riyals from 43.2 billion riyals in Q2 2020. Of the most important non-oil goods, ‘Plastics and Rubber and Articles Thereof’ (34.3% of non-oil merchandise exports) increased by 63.9% (8.8 billion riyals) and ‘Products of the Chemical or Allied Industries’ (31.0% of non-oil merchandise exports) increased by 61.9% (7.8 billion riyals) from Q2 2020. Non-oil exports increased compared to the previous quarter (Q1 2021) by 5.6 billion riyals or 9.4%.

Merchandise imports increased by 12.9% (16.1 billion riyals) in Q2 2021. The value of imports amounted to 140.9 billion riyals in Q2 2021 compared to 124.8 billion riyals in Q2 2020. This increase was due to the increase in many sectors compared to Q2 2020, mainly ‘Vehicles and Associated Transport Equipment’ (26.8%) and ‘Pearls; Precious Stones; Imitation Jewellery’ (452.2%). Imports also increased compared to the previous quarter (Q1 2021), by 1.4 billion riyals or 1.0%.

The ratio of non-oil exports to imports increased to 46.6% in Q2 2021 from 34.6% in Q2 2020 as a result of a higher increase in non-oil exports (52.1%) than in imports (12.9%) over that period.

In Q2 2021, exports to China amounted to 46.4 billion riyals (19.4% of total exports), making this country the main destination for exports of Saudi Arabia. India and Japan followed next with 21.7 billion riyals (9.1% of total exports) and 20.7 billion riyals (8.7% of total exports), respectively. South Korea, U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Netherlands, Singapore, and Taiwan were the other countries that ranked in the top 10 destinations. Exports of Saudi Arabia to those 10 countries amounted to 160.3 billion riyals, accounting for 67.2% of total exports.

Imports from China amounted to 25.7 billion riyals in (18.2% of total imports) Q2 2021, making this country the main origin for imports of Saudi Arabia. United Arab Emirates and U.S.A followed next with imports of 13.5 billion riyals (9.6% of total imports) and 13.1 billion riyals (9.3% of total imports), respectively. Germany, India, Japan, Italy, Egypt, France and Canada were the other countries that ranked in the top 10 countries for imports. Imports of Saudi Arabia from those 10 countries amounted to 87.9 billion riyals, accounting for 62.3% of total imports.

As many as 36.6 billion riyals of imports, corresponding to 26.0% of the total, entered the Kingdom from Jeddah Islamic Sea Port in Q2 2021. Among the other major ports of entry for the imports were King Abdulaziz Port (19.4%), King Khalid International Airport (12.4%), King Fahad Airport (7.0%), and Bat’ha (6.4%). Those five ports together accounted for 71.1% of the total merchandise

imports of the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia Participates in 11th Meeting of United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management

Riyadh, The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information participated in the 11th meeting of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), which was held virtually between August 23 and 24, 2021, and on August 28, 2021.

The meetings discussed several subjects on the agenda and checked on the progress level of the five regional committees (UN-GGIM: Asia-Pacific, UN-GGIM: Americas, UN-GGIM: Africa, UN-GGIM: Europe, UN-GGIM: Arab States).

The discussions also included the technical reports on the meeting agenda, such as the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF), Global Geodetic Reference Frame, and the report on using geospatial information for sustainable development, among other reports.

The meetings aim at providing a forum for consultation and dialogue on enhancing cooperation in the field of global geospatial information among member states and relevant organizations, permanent committees on basic structures of geospatial data, in addition to proposing action plans and steering principles necessary for encouraging the preparation of unified principles, policies, methods and mechanisms for geospatial data and services.

It is worth mentioning that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information, heads the Arab committee of UN-GGIM and holds the secretariat general, in addition to its membership of the UN-GGIM.
