Hammoudi and Mashhadani Call For a War On Corruption

Baghdad The head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, received today the leading figure of the Azm Alliance, the head of the Parliamentary Endowments Committee Mahmoud al-Mashhadani.

During the meeting, according to a statement by Hammoudi’s office, the developments in the political scene and the outcomes of the ongoing dialogues were discussed.

The two parties called for accelerating the formation of the government in light of a sober program whose priorities are providing services to citizens, waging a war against corruption in state institutions at various levels, looking responsibly and seriously at popular demands, and resolving outstanding issues, especially those related to faltering projects.

Survey commissioned by IHG Hotels & Resorts reveals what consumers value when they travel

DUBAI, UAE, Oct. 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts today revealed the results of a survey commissioned to better understand how consumers like to enjoy their time as a hotel guest, encouraging guests to be themselves.

The company’s new global campaign, Guest How You Guest, is a celebration of hotels and taking a break from having to do it all.  The survey results revealed what guests from the region are looking for in a hotel experience, with the three most popular features of a hotel stay rated as room service at 54%, facilities (pool, sauna, etc…) (52%), and selection of food available (49%). Meanwhile approximately 40% of respondents enjoyed not having to clean up after themselves or having to cook for themselves.

The research showed that 22% like to get changed for dinner to look their best, while 20% are comfortable enough slouching in their pajamas and hotel slippers.

92% of respondents felt they could be totally themselves when staying in a hotel, with 54% feeling they are always relaxed during their stay. But 14% worry that their kids may misbehave and cause disturbance to other guests.

Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee Discusses with the Minister of Interior the Security Situation in Iraq in General and in Dhi Qar and Basra in Particular

Baghdad The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee discussed with Interior Minister Othman Al-Ghanimi the security situation in Iraq in general and the security situation in the provinces of Dhi Qar and Basra in particular.

A statement by the Media Department of the House of Representatives stated that, based on the principle of activating the role of the House of Representatives in the supervisory and legislative role, the Security and Defense Committee started its first hosting in the second legislative term headed by MP, Khaled Al-Obaidi and in the presence of members of the committee today, Wednesday.

According to the statement, during the hosting, which was held at the headquarters of the committee, the security situation in Iraq in general and the security situation in the governorates of Dhi Qar and Basra in particular was discussed, as well as a discussion of the evaluation of the performance of the Ministry of Interior and the administrative measures taken by the ministry during the period of the caretaker government, in addition to a discussion to the subject of contracts rescinded by the Ministry of the Interior.

The statement added, that the committee promised to support the budget of the Ministry of Interior in the next federal budget in light of the ministry’s requirements.

Energy Expert: These Are the Results of Reducing Oil Production for Iraq

Baghdad An economic expert in the field of energy, Bilal Al-Khalifa, confirmed: “The decision to reduce the production of (OPEC +) … will lead to an increase in prices … and a new financial abundance for Iraq.”

In a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), he said: “The political factors, especially those related to the Russian-Ukrainian war, raised the price of oil from 73 to nearly $100 per barrel, in addition to the natural factors .”

Al-Khalifa added: “The decision of (OPEC +) to reduce production is not the first, it started since the Corona pandemic, and today it has reached two million barrels. This means that the price of a barrel has risen to 120 dollars after it witnessed a decrease to 83 dollars during the last period.”

He explained: “Any increase in the price of oil as a result of a reduction or something else is important for Iraq by increasing the financial abundance, since the price of a barrel of oil for the next budget will be 75 dollars, which will lead to reducing the deficit and ending it in the future whenever the price is high.”

The “OPEC +” alliance decided in its meeting in Vienna today to reduce production by two million barrels of oil per day, starting next month.

The Ministry of Immigration: We Have 25,000 Iraqis in Al-Hol Camp

Baghdad The Ministry of Immigration and Displacement announced that 25,000 Iraqis are in Al-Hol camp.

The Director General of the Branch Affairs Department at the Ministry of Immigration, Ali Jahakir, said in a televised statement: “We have returned more than 3,000 people from Al-Hol camp, and we will return a new batch soon,” explaining: ” Iraq finds it necessary to transfer Al-Hol residents to Al-Jada’a.”

He continued, “The media exaggeratedly dealt with al-Hol camp, and some of the camp’s families may not want to return.”

He added, “We have 11 camps for the displaced Iraqis in Syria, and there are 8,000 displaced Iraqis in this country.”

The National Coalition Comments on Plasschaert’s Briefing and Points Out Two Things

Baghdad The National Coalition led by Iyad Allawi confirmed the validity of what the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Plasschaert Jenin , said, noting: “Plasschaert’s briefing clearly diagnosed many of the problems and suffering of the Iraqi people.”

It said in a press statement: “There are two things that must be mentioned, in the briefing, the first is the accusation of all political leaders, and this generalization is not permissible, and the second is that the briefing did not clearly refer to the blatant foreign interference in Iraqi affairs, especially the American and Iranian interference. It also forgot their joint agreement to stifle the democratic process in Iraq in 2010 and rob the right of Iraqi people to choose who will represent them and lead them at that time. ”

NAUSS Hosts Meeting of Arab Experts to Discuss Cybersecurity and Cybercrime

Riyadh, The meeting of the committee concerned with developing a vision to activate the work of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in the field of cybersecurity and combating cybercrime kicked off today.

President of Algerian Council of Nation Receives Delegation of Shura Council

ITU Honors Representative of Saudi Arabia in Appreciation of his Contributions to Radio Regulations Board

Riyadh, The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) honored the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s former representative in the Radio Regulations Board Eng. Tariq bin Mohammed Al-Amri; in appreciation of his contributions during the past four years to the Board, among 12 international experts elected during the period from 2019 to 2022, on the sidelines of the Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 held in Romania.

The ITU praised Al-Amri’s contributions to the Radio Regulations Board as one of the high-level experts in the field of radiocommunication.

Saudi, Bahraini Interior Ministers Chair 2nd Meeting of Security and Military Coordination Committee

Riyadh, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior and General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Bahrain, chaired the second meeting of the Security and Military Coordination Committee which is affiliated with the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior’s office here today.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud welcomed the Bahraini Minister of Interior and the accompanying delegation, and conveyed to them the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and their wishes the success of the meeting and its expecting fruitful outcome that may contribute to preserving and strengthening the security of the two fraternal countries.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz also hailed the well-established historical relations, which have become a model for strategic cooperation in the field of employing resources and capabilities in order to maintain the common interests of the two fraternal countries, stressing that the meeting comes as a continuation of strengthening cooperation and coordination in security areas of common interest.

Iranian-American Baquer Namazi, 85, Leaves Iran

An 85-year-old Iranian-American previously barred from leaving Iran has now left and arrived in Oman, state media report.

Baquer Namazi has left Iran, semiofficial Iranian website Khabaronline said on October 5, publishing a video showing him boarding a private plane accompanied by a man in Omani traditional dress.

Oman on October 4 thanked Iran for handing over U.S. citizen Namazi, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on its website.

Namazi, a former UNICEF official, holds both U.S. and Iranian citizenship and is one of four Iranian-Americans, including his son, Siamak, who had been detained in Iran or barred from leaving the country.

The United Nations said in a statement on October 1 that following appeals by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the Iranian president, Tehran had agreed to allow Namazi to leave the country for medical treatment and that his son had been granted a furlough.

Baquer Namazi suffers from a heart condition and was hospitalized several times while in prison.


Siad and Baquer Namazi both received 10-year prison sentences in 2015 for “collaborating with the hostile American government” — charges they both denied.

Washington also rejected the allegations and called for their immediate release.

Siamak Namazi was based in Dubai with Crescent Petroleum Co. and was detained while visiting family in Tehran in 2015.

Baquer Namazi was arrested at the Tehran airport. He served two years of his sentence before being placed on a medical furlough but was forced to remain in Iran until the latest announcement.
