German Foreign Minister Visits MSC

Dr. Tobias Linder, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and his accompanying delegation today visited the Maritime Security Centre (MSC).

Upon the guest’s arrival, he was greeted by the Acting Head of the MSC.

The members of the visiting delegation toured the centre’s facilities and viewed its latest equipment and technologies used in carrying out its national duties. They were also briefed on the tactical roles and tasks carried out by the centre in the safety of the maritime environment.

Supreme Judicial Council, WIPO Discuss Aspects of Cooperation

The Supreme Judicial Council and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) discussed areas of cooperation, notably with a view to grooming qualified human resources.

The two sides envisaged the implementation of training programmes on intellectual property and intellectual property rights in Oman. They also exchanged views about establishing a database to regulate intellectual property applications.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Issa Hamad Al Azri, Secretary General of the Supreme Judicial Council, and Dr.Sherif Saadallah,Executive Directorof WIPO Academy.

The meeting elaborated on the academy’s establishment, its goals and its achievements.

The two sides underscored the role of the academy in consolidating national and international cooperation, spreading awareness and enhancing training on various intellectual property rights.

SME Authority Announces Start of Registration to Orientation Programme

The Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) today announced the start of registration to the 7th edition of its orientation programme themed “Inspiration and Success”.

The mentoring programme targets entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups.

The programme seeks to enable entrepreneurs to strategically plan their businesses and manage them in a professional manner. Through a set of seven business-tailored workshops, the programme provides entrepreneurs with the skills needed to seize opportunities and achieve maximum success.

Besides entrepreneurship, the orientation programme also aims to spread social awareness about the culture of voluntary work that can be practiced through entrepreneurship in Oman. It targets two segments of entrepreneurship: SMEs and startups.

The programme constitutes a link in a series of business orientation that kicked off a decade ago, since the convening of the “Small and Medium Enterprises Development Symposium” at Seih Al Shamkhat in the Wilayat of Bahla in 2013.

Anti-Cyber Crimes warns of fake websites selling concerts tickets

The Anti-Cyber Crimes Directorate of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security has warned of fake websites on social media selling tickets for concerts to get bank details and money from their victims.

Citizens and residents were urged not to respond to these websites and use official channels for e-purchases. Personnel and bank details shouldn’t be revealed through phone calls or any other methods. Scam cases could be reported through hotline 992.

HRH Princess Sabeeka’s congratulations conveyed to medal recipients

Hala Al Ansari, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), presented the Prince Salman bin Hamad Medal of Medical Merit to council’s general secretariat staff members.

Al Ansari conveyed the congratulations of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of SCW.

The secretary-general commended the employees’ efforts which earned them the distinguished medal, noting the medal symbolizes Bahrain’s courage and dedication through critical health conditions and its successful recovery under the slogan (Team Bahrain).

Al Ansari stressed that Bahrain’s achievements and success are a result of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s leadership, and the follow-up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister aimed at advancing the Kingdom in various sectors.

She also highlighted the exceptional work during the pandemic in many initiatives and programs, such as the “Together for Bahrain’s Safety” campaign, backed by HRH Princess Sabeeka to support Bahraini women and families.

The employees expressed their appreciation for receiving the honorary medal for their national efforts.

Deputy Prime Minister highlights strengths of ties with Türkiye

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, has affirmed the keenness of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to continue strengthening its cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye.

With Türkiye entering a new historical phase, Bahrain is looking forward to boosting trade and tourism exchange between the two countries, and encouraging the private sector to explore available investment opportunities, and strengthen partnership in the infrastructure sector, the deputy prime minister said in an interview with the Anadolu News Agency during his visit to Ankara.

Shaikh Khalid was delegated by HM the King to attend the inauguration ceremony of re-elected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye, last Saturday in Ankara,

The following is the text of the interview:

How would you evaluate the current state of relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the Kingdom of Bahrain?

Diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Türkiye go back to some 50 years, since 1973. This solid and strong relationship is based on the values of mutual respect and understanding. Over 17 official visits have been made, and several agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed between the two countries in various fields. To date, 38 agreements and MoUs have been signed in different fields, including youth, education, military, and industry.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa conducted two official visits to the Republic of Türkiye, the latest being in 2016, when His Majesty stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to further strengthening Bahraini-Turkish relations for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples. His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, also made an official visit to the Republic of Türkiye in 2016, affirming the importance of further expanding relations between the two countries.

A Turkish delegation led by President Recep Tayeb Erdogan, also conducted an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain a year later, in 2017, when a number of agreements and MoUs were signed.

The two countries enjoy a prospering economic relationship with the volume of bilateral trade amounting to almost $883 million in 2022- up by 66% from the same period the year before.

The kingdom highly values its relations with Türkiye and we continue to welcome Türkiye’s role and positive engagement on regional and international levels, becoming a role model for development.

Delegated by His Majesty the King, I am honored to be attending the inauguration ceremony of President Erdogan. The Kingdom is confident that the two countries will continue to foster these bilateral relations and advance them towards broader horizons of cooperation and partnership.

What are your expectations and ambitions for bilateral relations between the two countries in the new phase following Türkiye’s election for a new term?

The Kingdom of Bahrain remains committed to further strengthening its bilateral relations with the Republic of Türkiye across all fields.

As Türkiye enters a new historical phase following the announcement of the election results, through which the Turkish people renewed their confidence in President Erdogan for a new presidential term, the Kingdom of Bahrain affirms its eagerness to continue developing its distinguished relations with Türkiye within the framework of joint cooperation, including work to increase the levels of trade exchange between the two countries, as well as encouraging both countries’ business sectors to explore new investment prospects. In this regard, we commend the efforts of the Turkish-Bahraini Business Council in further developing these relations.

On top of business opportunities, the tourism sector is another essential domain to be further explored. The Kingdom of Bahrain regards this sector as a key contributor to non-Oil GDP growth, and has launched a Tourism Strategy for the years 2022-2026 as part of its post-pandemic Economic Recovery Plan. Similarly, the Republic of Türkiye places great values in this sector, as the country has become an ideal destination for both recreational and medical tourism. Thousands of Bahrainis and other nationalities from the region visit Türkiye every year.

As the chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, I also look forward to focusing on cooperation in the infrastructure sector, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience in this area. Moreover, I would like to express my admiration for the urban expansion and advanced infrastructure that Türkiye is currently experiencing.

MKCC team performs accurate surgeries

The medical team at the Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre (MKCC), led by Dr. Husam Abdulaziz Noor, with the participation of visiting doctors, Dr. James M. McCabe, from the University of Washington Medical Centre in Seattle, USA, and Professor Burkhard Mackensen, the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington. Has managed to perform several accurate operations.

Dr. Husam Noor, in cooperation with the visiting physicians, performed a Tricuspid valve replacement surgery through Interventional catheterization, which is the first of its kind in the kingdom.

The team also conducted four other operations via interventional catheters, including mitral valve repair, using the MitraClip technique and mitral valve replacement.

Major-General Dr. Fuad Abdelkader Saeed, the CEO of MKCC, and the team in charge of the surgeries, expressed their thanks and appreciation to the Brigadier-General Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Acting Commander of the Royal Medical Services, for constant efforts to provide all modern means of treatment on the one hand, and for paving the way to attract international experts and doctors, which contributes to the exchange of therapeutic and medical experiences, as well as enhance medical training, education and development, on the other hand.
