Al-Assadi meets the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, met with the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, “Nada Al-Nashif” in Geneva.

During the meeting, they discussed the Ministry’s efforts regarding the file of child labor and its role in reducing it, and its taking of legal measures in coordination with the supporting authorities to hold some employers who violate child labor instructions accountable.

The meeting also discussed the procedures of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to open a special directorate for Yazidi, Turkmen, Christian and Shabak survivors to provide care for them and guarantee their rights by including the necessary financial allocations in the budget to pay monthly salaries and provide psychological and moral support and care for them.

In his response about the recruitment of children in the Popular Mobilization Authority, Al-Asadi presented full evidence that denies these allegations, describing the authority as one of the official state institutions and with controls that prevent the recruitment of children among the ranks of the security forces.

The meeting also included agreement on joint cooperation in the field of writing human rights reports, raising the capabilities of labor inspectors and building shelters for children.

This meeting comes on the sidelines of the participation of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, in the meetings of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization in Geneva.
