Bahrain’s alternative sentencing move praised

National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR) Chairman Ali Ahmed Al Derazi hailed the launch of the second phase of the law on alternative sentencing (open prizons”.

He stressed the importance of the step in reintegrating convicts benefiting from the scheme into their society and families.

“The second phase of the alternative penal code reflects Bahrain’s success in implementing and achieving its goals, which include rehabilitating the convicts and ensuring that they do not return to crime with their proper integration into society”, he said.

He praised the efforts led by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to develop alternative sentencing and open prisons through training programmes aimed to reintegrate beneficiaries into society, which reflects Bahrain’s efforts to promote human rights
