Blinken: Washington is working to “tighten” pressure on Russia without classifying it as a “state sponsor of terrorism”

Baghdad The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, announced that President Joe Biden’s administration is working with representatives in Congress to “tighten” pressure on Russia without classifying it as a “state sponsor of terrorism.”

Blinken said, in response to a question about why the United States did not include Russia in this list: “We are constantly looking for different ways that we can resort to in order to increase pressure on Russia and we are working with Congress on a bill that would help us circumvent some of the difficulties associated with including it on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which could have unforeseen consequences.”

He stressed that the US sanctions against Russia have an immediate effect, which “will increase over time,” he claimed.

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned earlier that if Washington declared Russia a state “sponsor of terrorism”, this could lead to cutting the diplomatic relations with the United States, which will not be able to deal with its international issues in isolation from cooperation with Russia.
