President of Republic of Kazakhstan Receives Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs

Nur-Sultan, September 15, 2022, SPA– President Kassym Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan received yesterday, at the Independence Palace in Nur-Sultan, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh, head of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation to 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which is currently being held with the participation of more than 100 delegations from 60 countries. The Kazakh president praised the efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in serving Islam and Muslims in the world, appreciating the Kingdom’s distinguished participation in the work of the 7th Congress held in Kazakhstan, which seeks to achieve fruitful cooperation to address hatred.
On his part, Minister of Islamic Affairs conveyed to the Kazakh president the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and their wishes for more security, stability and progress for the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Minister praised Kazakhstan’s efforts to promote dialogue and spread a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among followers of global and traditional religions by launching international conferences for dialogue and exchanging views to spread tolerance. The Minister also stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its wise leadership, based on its leadership in the Islamic world, are cooperating with all countries to promote a culture of dialogue, lay the foundations for global security, and counter the hate speech advocated by extremist groups.
At the end of the reception, the Kazakh President presented a souvenir to the Minister on this occasion.

President of Saudi International Iron, Steel Conference: Huge Construction Projects in Saudi Arabia Represent Historic Opportunity for Iron Manufacturers

Riyadh– President of the Saudi International Iron and Steel Conference Eng. Raed Al-Ajaji stressed that the 2nd edition of the conference, which was hosted in Riyadh between September 12 and 14, has realized unique successes and qualitative participation of some 1,000 participants from decision makers and pioneers of the iron and steel industry at the local, regional and international levels. The conference has witnessed the signing of agreements worth SAR 400 billion and reached scientific and practical recommendations that can push the future of this industry and enhance its role in economic and industrial development in developed and developing countries.
Al-Ajaji expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the wise leadership’s approval to hold this conference and for the support for the national iron industry as part of Saudi Vision 2030.
He noted that the conference shed light on the capabilities of the iron industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its plans to become a main player in the steel production at the international level as part of huge projects that are being developed, which were described as the biggest construction schemes in history and will consume the biggest amount of iron, which constitutes a historic opportunity for local and international iron manufacturers.
He said: the conference addressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts related to the iron industry in the field of environment and reducing carbon emissions and the use of green hydrogen.
As for the international iron industry, Al-Ajaji said that the conference discussed challenges related to supply chains and the increase of prices of energy and raw materials, the geopolitical conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic and their impact on the global iron manufacturing and the levels of production and supply and demand, urging manufacturing companies to adopt environment-friendly production technologies to limit carbon emissions.

CITC Launches First Phase of Initiative to Recycle Electronic Devices “Recycle Your Device”

Riyadh– The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has announced launching the first phase of an initiative to recycle electronic devices “recycle your device”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) and the private sector, where the initiative seeks to enhance the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s goals in realizing Sustainable Development Goals.
The commission noted that the initiative is part of its social responsibility to increase awareness of individuals and institutions on their roles towards recycling electronic devices and achieving environmental sustainability, and is characterized by expanded partnerships with the private sector to provide a national movement to implement it as per its time span extending until the end of December, 2022.
CITC pointed out that the initiative has two stages; the first includes receiving participation applications from the private sector to donate their devices between September and December, 2022, while the second phase targets individuals’ applications and extends between October and December, 2022.
The commission said that it targets recycling five types of electronic devices, including mobile and fixed phone, modem devices, printers, laptops and personal computers, noting that the recycling process will include two paths to repair devices and donating them to needy families or recycling them according to specialized means. It will also allocate a website showing the ways of delivering devices to the commission and to receive inquiries and to show statistics.
Launching the campaign is part of the commission’s efforts after announcing the first of its kind report about sustainability in the ICT sector, which displays CITC’s strategic trends to empower sustainable and circular economy.

KACST, Intel Enhance Partnership in Emerging Technology Field

Riyadh– King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Intel today signed a memorandum of understanding on the field of computing, AI and robotics, on the sidelines of the 2nd Global AI Summit that is organized by the Saudi Data and AI Authority in Riyadh.
The signing ceremony was attended by KACST President Dr. Munir Al-Dusouqi, while the memo was signed by Intel Director General Ahmad Al-Abd Al-Jabbar and KACST Vice President for Future Economics Sector Dr. Mariam Nouh.
The memo seeks to increase the operational efficiency of computing, where Intel will provide KACST with information on future plans and developments for the company’s processors and Intel productions in emerging technologies.
The partnership seeks to increase awareness on AI through awareness and training programs, offering consultation in IT and data solutions and end user equipment, challenges of product accountability and digital elements.

OIC Expresses Concern over Clashes on Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan Border

Jeddah– The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed deep concern over media reports about clashes between guards on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The OIC urged both countries to exercise self-restraint, avoid further escalation, and resort to dialogue to resolve all contentious issues, in the spirit of good-neighbourly relations.

SAGO Issues a Tender to Import 535,000 Tons of Wheat

Riyadh– Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) issued today a tender to import 535,000 tons of wheat to be supplied from November 2022 to February 2023.
SAGO Governor Eng. Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Faris stressed that the quantity offered is a part of the framework of SAGO’s plan to maintain strategic stocks of wheat and meet all the needs of milling companies.
He added that the quantity is distributed among (9) ships, with (2) ships for Jeddah Islamic Port, (3) ships for Yanbu Commercial Port, (3) ships for King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and (1) ship for Jazan Port.
