MPs call on the government to expedite the legislation of the amnesty law

Baghdad, MPs called on the current government to expedite the enactment of the general amnesty law.

Member of the Legal Committee, MP Abdul Karim Al-Abtan, said in a joint press conference today, Saturday: “The government was formed on the basis of a political agreement that includes a number of paragraphs that concern the people of the Sovereignty Alliance, foremost of which is the issuance of a general amnesty law according to specific time periods.”

He added, “We are at the beginning of a new legislative season, and a period has passed since the formation of the government, but we did not see the seriousness in implementing the government program agreed upon so far, which makes us question the seriousness of implementing what was agreed upon.”

He explained, “a few days ago, the Rusafa Criminal Court issued a 10-year prison sentence against a false secret informant, and this confirms what we have been talking about over the past years, with the presence of thousands of innocent people in prisons as a result of the notorious secret informant’s slander. Once again, asking Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani to fulfill his obligations that he set in his government program.
