Baghdad The financial expert, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Muzhar Muhammad Saleh, confirmed: “The activation of the customs tariff is a protection and immunity for the country’s economy.”
He said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): “The customs tariff is undoubtedly an important tool in providing commercial protection for the country, and then the importance of its role in providing immunities for the national economy, especially in facing commodity dumping policies pursued by some exporting countries to our country’s markets in order to continue Monopolizing its goods in the local market without competitors, including the national product.
Muhammad Salih added: “There are other complementary laws that should be activated related to the protection of the local product and the protection of the consumer, all of which are almost suspended due to commercial liberalism, poor quality control measures, and penetration of the country’s customs wall through outlets through which goods flow outside the country’s customs and commercial system controls.”
He explained: “Reorganizing imports according to the country’s basic needs and regulating foreign trade has become a basic requirement in protecting the national economy in general and development and national production in particular. This is what we expect from an effective role for the government program and its applications in the coming period.”
