Baghdad The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, expressed his hope that the memory of Mam Jalal would be a catalyst for the unity of the Kurdish parties and for the Iraqi parties to sit together.
Barzani said in a speech during his participation in a memorial ceremony held in Erbil on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the death of President Jalal Talabani: “Mam Jalal granted strength and greatness to the post of President of the Republic, because he had become a cause of harmony among all Iraqi forces, and a good defender of the Kurds, Shiites, Sunnis and all other components.
He added: “We remember the third day of October, with appreciation and pride, the anniversary of the departure of President Mam Jalal. It is true that years have passed since his eternal departure, but over these years and after his illness and his departure from political work and in the state, we have always felt the void left by him.”
He confirmed that Mam Jalal granted power and greatness to the post of President of the Republic, because he had become a cause of harmony among all Iraqi forces, and a good defender of the Kurds, Shiites, Sunnis and all other components, noting that Mam Jalal’s headquarters was in Baghdad, which had become a place for calm and ending disputes. With the absence of Mam Jalal from Baghdad, a large pillar of consensus was absent and a major center for political dialogue was absent, so that the Iraqi people and forces still feel that.
He continued: “With the same enthusiasm and the same goal, it is very necessary that we sit together today and solve problems. In fact, the people of Iraq feel great discontent and annoyance with the political differences in the country, because they know the longer the differences continue, the more services and stability decline and the country’s sovereignty weakens.”
He concluded his speech by saying: “Let us all do this today, and take the same approach to the decision of the agreement, for giving up for the sake of the agreement and the happiness of the people is a victory and never represents a defeat for any party.”
