Speaker meets Egyptian counterpart; affirms parliamentary cooperation


Cairo, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, participated in a joint parliamentary session, held at the Egyptian House of Representatives and co-chaired by the Speaker and his Egyptian counterpart Hanafi Ali Jebali.

Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, Bahraini Ambassador to Egypt, attended the session.

Al Musallam expressed deep appreciation and pride in the solid historical Bahraini-Egyptian relations, extending over thousands of years, since the Dilmun civilisation and the great Nile Valley civilisation.

He praised the progress of cooperation between the two countries and the supporting stances at various times, supported by the interest of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt, with the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Excellency Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt.

The Bahraini Speaker appreciated the strong bilateral ties
that are underpinned by civilisational, religious, cultural, social ties, and a common belief in the same destiny.

He pointed out that Bahrain’s hosting of the next Arab summit will constitute a new phase for joint Arab action, in light of the continuous coordination and the meeting of HM the King and HE the Egyptian President last week.

Al Musallam affirmed parliamentary support for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economic and investment sectors, increasing trade and tourism exchange, and all development fields.

Speaker Jebali praised the efforts of HM the King and HE the President, and the follow-up of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and HE the Egyptian Prime Minister, in enhancing cooperation in various domains.

The Egyptian Speaker appreciated the keenness and interest of His Majesty the King and his outstanding efforts in strengthening Arab cooperation and solidarity.

He lauded the outcome of the talks between HM the King and HE the Egyptian President, in enhancing cooperation and su
pporting collective efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace.

Jebali pointed out that Bahrain’s hosting of the upcoming Arab Summit would contribute to fostering joint Arab action, addressing key issues, and strengthening cooperation across all domains.

He affirmed the support for legislative cooperation, continuous parliamentary coordination, and support for the Egyptian-Bahraini partnership, particularly in the economic, investment and development sectors, and increasing the exchange of expertise between the two councils and the General Secretariat.

Abdullah bin Zayed, Pakistani counterpart discuss cooperation ties, strategic partnership


Abu Dhabi, Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone call with Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, during which they discussed bilateral relations and strategic partnership, as well as avenues to enhance them in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both nations and benefits their peoples.

The two sides reviewed the prospects for joint cooperation in a number of fields, including economic, trade, development, and other sectors that support the efforts of the two countries to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

Shaikh Abdullah emphasised the strong and expanding historical ties between the UAE and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, highlighting the mutual keenness to reinforce these bonds and enhance opportunities for collaborative efforts within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

South Korea’s nanosatellite launched for satellite constellation project


Seoul, A South Korean nanosatellite was launched into orbit as part of the nation’s project to create a satellite constellation by 2027.

The Earth observation satellite lifted off aboard Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket from a spaceport in Mahia, New Zealand, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT, Yonhap reported.

The satellite, named NEONSAT-1, was deployed into space at an altitude of 520 kilometers, about 50 minutes after the rocket’s launch. NEONSAT stands for the New-space Earth Observation SATellite constellation for national safety.

Developed by the state-run Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) for mass production, NEONSAT-1 weighs less than 100 kilograms and has a resolution of 1 meter.

The satellite was the first among 11 nanosatellites to form a satellite constellation to monitor and take images of the Korean Peninsula and its surrounding regions.

South Korea plans to launch five more nanosatellites into space in June 2026 and five more in September 2027.

HM King’s Economic Advisor receives Indian Ambassador


Manama, Dr. Hassan bin Abdulla Fakhro, Advisor to His Majesty the King for Economic Affairs, received Vinod K. Jacob, the Indian Ambassador to Bahrain.

The meeting discussed topics of common interest.

The advisor praised the historical Bahrain-India economic relations, noting the diplomatic cooperation in developing the interests of both countries and its peoples.

Northern Governor receives Ambassador of Japan


Manama, Ali bin Shaikh Abdulhussain Al Asfoor, Northern Governor, received Okai Asako, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Bahrain.

Amal Isa Dawood Bu Chandal, Director of the Information and Follow-up Directorate at the Northern Governorate, attended the meeting.

The governor praised the strong bilateral ties and wished the ambassador success in enhancing economic and diplomatic relations.

He highlighted the significance of leveraging the existing growth opportunities, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and enhancing the training of the Bahraini workforce in Japanese factories and companies.

Al Asfoor expressed his ambition that Bahrain become a hub for Japanese companies in the region, and learn from their expertise in disaster management, particularly in volunteering for health cities programmes.

The ambassador expressed pride in working in Bahrain, emphasising her country’s commitment to enhance cooperation for common benefits.

She wished Bahrain further progress and pr
osperity.

King of Jordan orders holding parliamentary elections


Amman, His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday ordered holding elections for the House of Representatives, in accordance with the law.

A Royal Decree was issued, in accordance with Paragraph I of Article 34 of the Constitution, ordering holding the elections in the manner stipulated in the law.

Coinciding with the decree, His Majesty visited the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and met with its president and board of commissioners to check on preparations to administer and oversee the electoral process, PETRA reported.

During the meeting, the King urged the IEC’s board of commissioners and staff to work to ensure the success of the electoral process, calling for zero tolerance of any violations.

His Majesty stressed that Jordan is embarking on an important stage of political modernisation, which is the beginning of a new phase of platform-based partisan and parliamentary action.

The King said he directed the government to provide all support to the IEC.

For his part, IEC President Musa Maaytah sa
id the commission is ready to organise the election and announce its results transparently.

He noted that the IEC has published voters’ lists electronically, adding that the number of voters exceeds five million.

Maaytah said 1,600 polling stations and 19 main electoral committees were selected, noting that the IEC will publish voters’ polling stations, with an electronic service that enables them to change their polling centre within the same electoral district, and allows Christian, Circassian, and Chechen voters to change their electoral district, if their district does not have an allocated seat for candidates representing them.

He added that the commission, in cooperation with the Interior Ministry, has worked on facilitating measures to change voters’ area of residence, and has carried out mock elections based on the new Election Law, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Ministry of Youth.

The IEC also launched an action plan to integrate persons with disabilit
ies in the electoral process, by ensuring accessibility at 95 centres and recruiting volunteers, in cooperation with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and has published material to raise awareness and developed its website to address their needs.

Kuwait Amir, Jordan King hold official talks


Amman, His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Amir of Kuwait, and His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan, held a meeting during the official visit of the Amir of Kuwait to Jordan.

The meeting discussed bilateral relation and current regional developments.

The two leaderships affirmed their pride in the deep-rooted historic Kuwait-Jordan ties and their keenness to strengthen cooperation in all sectors, particularly in the economic and investment sectors, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

His Highness the Amir congratulated HM King Abdullah II on the 25th anniversary of his assumption of constitutional powers, commending the remarkable development achievements and stability of Jordan under the leadership of HM King Abdullah II.

Foreign Minister, UAE counterpart discuss regional issues, Arab Summit agenda


Abu Dhabi, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Foreign Affairs Minister, held a meeting with his UAE counterpart, HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the presence of Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, the Minister of State at the UAE Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The meeting is part of the Foreign Affairs Minister’s tour that has covered several Arab countries.

The two ministers discussed the progress of the long-standing solid fraternal Bahrain-UAE relations, ways to bolster bilateral cooperation across various fields, as well as increasing joint coordination and consultation at all levels to serve the two countries’ interests and common goals.

They also discussed the latest regional developments and the war in the Gaza Strip, as well as the ongoing regional and global endeavours to reach a ceasefire immediately, protect civilians and deliver relief aid to the Gazans, in addition to efforts to establish regional peace, security and stability.

The ongoing preparations for holding the 33rd Arab Summit, set to be
hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on May 16, and the topics to be discussed during it to achieve the goals of joint Arab action and serve Arab interests were also reviewed.

AP Speaker chairs prep committee meeting of the 6th Conference of Speakers of Arab Councils, Parliaments


Cairo, Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoomi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, headed the Arab Parliament’s sixth Conference of Speakers of Arab Councils, Parliaments, preparatory committee meeting.

The meeting aimed to prepare for the conference which will be held next Saturday in Cairo titled “A parliamentary vision for achieving safe employment of AI”.

The Speaker affirmed the importance of the topic of the conference, which aims to discuss one of the important issues related to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in the Arab countries.

He noted that the Arab Parliament prepared a draft document titled “A Parliamentary Vision for Achieving the Safe Employment of AI” which addresses the opportunities and challenges associated with the uses of AI in Arab countries and the role that Arab parliamentarians can have in governing its usage.

Al Asoomi said that the Arab Summit to be hosted by Bahrain constitutes a qualitative leap in the process of joint action, supporting Arab issues and confronting curre
nt challenges, such as those related to AI.

He hailed Bahrain’s policy led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in enabling safe use of AI and staying up to date with the latest developments.

BDF Commander-in-Chief Golf Tournament concluded


Manama, The fifth edition of the Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defense Force Golf Championship concluded today, with the presence of Lieutenant General Theyab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi, Chief of Staff at the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF). The closing ceremony took place at the Falcons Golf Course located at Isa Air Base of the Royal Bahraini Air Force.

During the event’s conclusion, Lieutenant General Al Nuaimi presented the tournament trophy and appreciation prizes to the winning players.

Sergeant Mohammed Khalifa Al Muraisi secured the tournament trophy in the gross category, followed by Sergeant Sultan Abdulla Al Hakam also from the BDF in second place, and Captain Saud Hamad Al Athem from the Ministry of Interior in third place. In the net category, Abdulaziz Mohammed Faraj secured first place, while Senior Warrant Officer Mishal Askar Abdullah secured second place, and Abdullah Sultan Al Hakam from the BDF attained third place.

Al Nuaimi congratulated the tournament winners for their commendable performanc
e, expressing gratitude and appreciation to the organisers for their efficient management throughout the championship. The tournament saw the participation of 66 players from the BDF, Ministry of Interior, and National Guard. He extended his best wishes to all participants for success in future tournaments.
